Hello,

Bixby, the 8337 blodgesteppin' catcher of the Manoir, has a new skill.

My first instinct was Tackle, but then I thought of other skills, listed above.

Which skill would you take, and why?

Since it's only an R team, and I tend to experiment a bit. (I'm trying to break the Book of Dakka.)

I know there's always Sneaky Git, but I don't think it's the moment for that misunderestimated skill.

Any of those would do, they're all good skills. Sure feet doesn't seem as good as the others tho.

It depends a lot on how you use him. I wouldn't bother much with sure hands. You already have one, not great but decent ballcarrier. And against most teams you won't need sure hands to carry the ball.

And Frenzy is Frenzy. I love it, but you'll eventually take it on a blitzer i guess.

So maybe Fend and Tackle are the best picks.
Tackle makes him a great safety, and Fend helps both with surviving and with the carrying bit. It's also a lovely combo with sidestep.

Diving Tackle isn't listed but I'd probably go with that before Tackle for this guy.

But to really have some fun I'd go Shadowing.

Fend, if he does NOT go down then he should be on his own when you're ready for him to catch the ball. You could match this with Side step and ensure that he is either on his own OR that the opposition used 1/2 their men to try and stop him.

That being said a forward thinking coach would move blocking players after the block. At least Fend keeps him safer from Followup frenzy attacks.

I underestimated sure feet until I started playing humans. The catcher is one of the fastest players in Blood Bowl... being able to reliably move 10 squares is deadly, especially combined with your other catchers/blitzers having the speed to shield him. With ST3 is even better... in many cases, the opponent will have to get TWO players on him to blitz effectively. This is a guy who can pull off the two-turn TD almost at will, steal the ball in the backfield, and pose a T8 one-turn threat even if you don't have a reroll left.

If ur trying out random stuff. Why not strip ball! Could be a fun build on a +st catcher!

I voted Tackle. Pow all menz! Fend makes good sense too: he's a target for TPOMBers, and Fend will keep him in the clear where his MA8 can come into play. Sure Hands makes some sense. Sure Feet would be a good Legend skill. I'd avoid Diving Tackle on a rare AV7 player: it's a good skill, but it gets you hit.

Seeing as your thrower isn't developed I think Sure Hands for your catcher to make main carrying duties. Good player!

The votes are really close: out of 24 votes, 6 go to Tackle, 5 to Fend, 3 to Frenzeh, 3 to Sure Hands, 2 to Sure Feet, and 5 to another skill or Pie.

I think I'll still go for Tackle, because safety:

Quote:
Safeties are the last line of defense, and are thus expected to be sure tacklers.

I could go Fend first, but the team needs tacklers and I don't play PO in R. So it'll be Fend next, then probably Strip Ball. A 8337 blodgestepping catcher with Tackle, Strip Ball and Fend should be a good safety.

Taking Tackle on Bixby will allow me to take Frenzy and Dauntless earlier on my blitzers.

Diving Tackle and Shadowing are skills I will test with my gutter runners.

Sure Feet is interesting, but risky with a 7av guy, and I play with 4 RR.

Sure Hands instead of Fend could make sense, but Fend and Sidestep is quite awesome.

Thanks, guys!

There goes my wish to beat the Book of Dakka.

At least I won't go TPOMB on any of my blitzers!

:-P

Why not? To get games? Humans get games just fine no matter how they're composed.

No, to be consistent with my own policy - no PO in R.

The idea comes from John Dakker.

In a nutshell, PO is insane. Should never have made a skill to re-roll for injury.

I don't play R to compete - there are Box and organized leagues for that. I only play R when I get no SL games or B is dead. From my chess player perspective, R is incompatible with competitiveness. To me, R is like the defunct Gentlemen's Club.

All this has already been covered in the CPOMB thread.
