Ok, this isn't really a question but rather an observation. Rolling Eyes

In the name-help-suggestion-section http://fumbbl.com/help:TeamNames it says this:

Quote:

Mostly Unacceptable!

One letter name changes. Peggy, Teggy, Meggy, Leggy, Keggy etc. Not against the rules per se...but VERY lazy and highly disliked those who see them everyday.

Then what about the LoTR-style dwarf-names..?
Vain, Nain, Balin, Dvalin, Bimbur, Bombur, Bifur et.c..

To me that's exactly the type of names suggested to be unacceptable in the rules as stated above. In my opinion, that type of names shouldn't be moderated at all, the mods should instead concentrate on more important matters.

For instance, have a look at this team:
http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=228846

I have nothing against this team in particular and I mean no offence to the coach in question, BUT Exclamation have a look at the player portraits. If the names mentioned above are against the rules, so should these portraits.

No offence, but I think the rules are a bit misguiding. Shocked

I have looked at the "player and team images section" and nowhere does it mention what pictures are allowed. If some names are disallowed then I think a lot of portraits should be as well. Mad

You find women in burkas offensive?

The naming rules are like that to prevent lazy and unimaginative people creating teams with variations on lineman001, lineman 002 etc. Just use some imagination and you won't have trouble getting teams approved.

The rules on player portraits are pretty clear too:

Quote:
Picture will not be uploadable / will not be approved if:

* Filesize is over 10k
* It is clearly copyrighted picture and used without permission
* It includes nudity
* It is other ways offensive language - including but not limited to racism, sexual harrassment and religious persecution
* It is uploaded to public folders and it is not picture of that particular Blood Bowl player

Its not suggested to use animated gifs on either pictures as they compleately jam machines running on some systems and java versions.

The team you linked to dosen't break those rules.

LOL, I don't agree one bit, but kudos for the effort Smile

Names are the difference, in that names are required to have a team, pictures aren't...

and really....who wants to play against an entire team of players named #1 #2 #3 #4, etc?

pictures on the other hand are kinda meh?...they're not required, and as long as they're not pornographic or offensive to the group at large, who cares what someone puts up?....

i'd rather see 16 pictures with one tiny difference apiece, than 16 pictures of the same blood bowl miniature that everyone has, because the majority of people, myself included for the most part, don't upload pictures..

Well, you missed my point.

No, I wouldn't want the moderators to remove the rule about the names, because it's there for a reason. But I still think that the same rule should be applied to pictures. There's a whole gallery of pre-uploaded pictures to browse and chose from.

My point is that the formulation of the rule about the name sounds a bitt off to me. I my opinion, there can be a whole team of for instance goblins whose names are very similar and thereby falls under the rule about lazy names. There's quite a few races/players that can have similar names and still not be out-of-place.

Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation I think there should be a rule about pictures. Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Its a fairly big hassle to go and change player portraits usually even without uploading new portraits for every single player and most people only do it for their favourite teams. Nice idea, but it'd take up huge amounts of extra time from everyone for something that really isn't that noticeable.

No, I didn't say it actually did break any rules, but the pictures aren't exactly enhancing the gameplay.

Yes, but nowe we're getting to the core of the problem.

Somebody actually has to approve the pictures you upload, and the poeple doing that obviously approve a lot. Simply don't approve pictures that aren't in-game.

I'm not asking someonoe to go through every user and check his/her pictures, just stop approving pictures that aren't BloodBowlish?

As the guy who wrote the team name rules (and one who has to read all your creations) the key to the above is the "MOSTLY" unacceptable. As in these are more "suggestions" that will see your team get approved faster. This is in the part of the quote you left out...

Mostly Unacceptable!

The following is a bit subjective. While they may ultimately find a sympathetic approver be prepared to wait or be disallowed by others who DON’T like these.

I suppose if you're into roleplaying then non-fantasy pictures could spoil it.

I liked pizzamogul's team though, the theme is mildly amusing and there are lots of other teams that don't really fit into a fantasy setting. With however many thouand coaches there are on Fumbbl you'd run out of acceptable names/pictures pretty quickly. Smile

And despite all that ... I think this is one of the more/most creative teams I've seen around:

http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=147500

Of course it is simple, and not particular deep - but quite effective. I am glad it went through Smile.

At the end it is noted that the "mostly unacceptable" rules aren;t in fact rules...but are the kind of things approvers really get tired of seeing and thus MAY disallow the team, or more likely, just let it sit in limbo for awhile until some other approver deals with it.

I understand that, but the names you specified on the rules page doesn't sound outrageous to me, in fact, they sound absolutely ok.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I've played that team and I found it mildly amusing too, but I would've found it quite more amusing had the pictures been his own painted miniatures.
Yes, I am a roleplayer and that's why I brought this up. I've had this kind of discussion on several other forums, concernig other games, several times and I think there will always be a difference between the die-hard-roleplayers like myself (at least sometimes Laughing ) and the not-so-die-hard-roleplayers.

All I wanted was to point out that some moderators seem to approve pictures that (in my opinion) doesn't really fit in.

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Well, in that case you coould argue that there's a purpose with the names, so, yes that's amusing.

I respectfully disagree. The portrait feature allows a coach to "flesh out" a theme in a way that the tabletop game does not. I love to play against a team with a little bit of TLC put into it. I find starring at the generic pics and the standard race logo with a theme that is little more than a team name and some player names that might fit the concept the online equivalent of bringing unpainted minis to a tabletop match. A few coaches even have music embedded on their team page...that's cool!

Although I can see how having your Goblin being blitzed by Richard Simmons could spoil your role-playing experience...my apologies for that.
