Low FF strategies tend to collapse if everybody relies on them. The word "leech" is appropriate; the strategy is fundamentally parasitic. If all teams take only FF1 to start, how much money are they going to make?

Personally, I'll also avoid playing teams with FF 1.

I'd take 3 rerolls at least and a few positionals.

Something like 3 RR, 7 Linemen, 2 blitzer, 2 catcher, 1 FF. I think that's what I started out with. However, since a lot of people are reluctant to play low FF teams, for fumbbl, it might be better to reduce the positionals and buy more FF instead. Perhaps exchaning a blitzer for a lineman and buying 5 more FF would be good.

If someone is going to make a fresh Elven team of any kind into an existing league (such as the Grudge League, for example), FF 1 is definitely the way to go. However, one might even consider purchasing a 12th player instead of the third re-roll. The opponent will always be fielding 11 due to having a roster of 14-16 players but if you can't field 11, then you are at a very difficult disadvantage compared to the more seasoned teams.

Ranked is of course a different story but who cares about Ranked, anyway? Wink

for my faction HEs, I started with 2 DWs, 9 linos, apoc, 1 RR and 7 FF.

With a bit of clever play and the FF will increase. You gain the benefit of block that no amount of agility can protect you from;) as well as the obvious benefits of agility.

I personally alway start my teams with only Linemen and max rr... a few elves will die off during your first 8 games (before they get block)
and they should be replaced by positionals only. Playing with identical players really makes you think more freely, some of my best
games (coachwise) have been with new all lineman teams. Started a Vamp team with only linemen and 4 rr Twisted Evil

You guys are all crazy.
Elves start with 2 rerolls, one blitzer type, one other positional if it is affordable.
Pro Elves start with 3 rerolls.
FF is a minimum of 8, preferably 9.
Apothecary is the first purchase.
End of story!

the best way to start an elven team is not to start one! Start chaos and be a fouler/basher. Everybody will love you.
