A recent oppoent of mine claims that you can't push someone onto the ball if there is an empty square available without the ball.

I can't find anything in the LRB2 rules to confirm or deny this.

It all comes down to..does the square with the ball count as an non-occupied square?

An occupied square is a square with a player in it. It even says right there about occupied by other players in the push back section.

The ball does not in any way hinder movement or pushing.

So of course you can push someone on to the ball!

I remember at some point in the past the ball square was counted as occupied and one could not be pushed into it, unless there were
no unoccupied squares possible. But that was some time ago, and I cannot find anything about it on LRB either.

Yep, with the current rules you can push a player into an square occupied by the ball. Also worthwhile remembering, the player who is pushed into the square cannot pick the ball up, it will scatter once automatically.

what I find so harsh was when I blocked a guy onto the ball, followed up and HAD to pick up the ball when it scattered onto him.
Since it was a blitz I could not get rid of the ball and thus lost the game instead of drawing Sad

I think you should be allowed to NOT pick up a scattered ball.... Sad

What you CAN'T do is use TTM to throw a stunty at a free ball (can't aim on players either).

You can throw a stunty next to the free ball and he can land on it after the scattering. I don't know if that scatters the ball or not. NE1?
