Hi, guys. I'm new to Fumbbl and have played a couple of games now. Both games were set up differently.
First off my opponent hosted and I typed in the game name to get started. The second game I hosted and got my opponent to type in my ip address to connect.
As there are quite a few different ways to start a game, is there any which is the established norm - the status quo? One that people use over any other?
Thanks a bunch. |

most people I find
usually just say something like
"game on swe2"
most people use the proxy server
rarely people want to connect via ip |

In very general terms, the player who offers the game is expected to either host the game himself (proxy or DC) or politely request that the other player hosts.
Asking to play DC is fine--it's better overall, just more work to set up. |

I use the proxies to play games, because i play behind a firewall which doesn't allow me to host DC (IP) games. I have played games where the host has DC'd and all went fine.
Once the game is agreed, if my oppo hasn't specified a host within about 5 seconds, i'll offer to host saying something like
bbowl on swe3
meaning gamename set as bbowl and using the sweden3 proxy (or proxy.fumbbl.com port 8083) |

Yeah I'm with krytie - game name and server. Although I am able to do DC I generally use the servers as they are quicker and simpler for most people to use (although they are a little less reliable).
Don't dwell too much on etiquette for setting up a game. The only ettiquette you need to know is that once you agree to a game and most certainly once the game has started, you don't bail cos you get cold feet or it isn't going your way!
Other than that, what you are doing is fine and using the servers is fine too.
Enjoy the games (not the nufflins) and welcome |

Its really all about coach preference.
Many coaches, myself included, prefer to use the proxy settings while others prefer direct IP connection. Both have advantages and disadvantages so find your own pref and go with that. |

I agree with the chaps, I like to use proxies, DC I think is better if you can do it, but it causes spec issues for me.
And welcome aboard Sizzling_Gromril, gogo Wigan coaches \o/.
I am going to debut your ex-Rotters (I assume this is you that sold them to me... If not, I've not robbed your house!) at the Carrot Crunch in July, the Rot for the win! |

If you can host direct it's better - less issues when reloading. Also less tress on the server. |
