No. Snotlings were 2-1 normal players. However if you played a 'snotling' team, they were then 1-1. So you could never take more than 16 snotlings. You had to be hardcore good to play snotlings.
Impossible now, but back then you had tackling. |

Refs on the pitch. You could block/foul refs.

Yeah I often wondered about this my self. Why bringing back rolling subs never got re-introduced, to make teams take a full bench. But the problem is it is exploitable really. you have to bring the player back in an area on the side lines, which can cause problems.
It would have been interesting though.
As for refs on the pitch. That sounds like a great idea to me.
If they get killed then fouling comes with no risks
You could have 3 Refs and roll a D3 before the game.
1-2 Dwarf
3-4 Human
5-6 Goblin
They could have a similar stat line to their in game player. If you tried to block/blitz them you would be sent off unless you Stunned them or worse.
while stunned or if they are Ko'd+ then you can foul without getting sent off.
This would be a sweet adition. The goblin would never last long The Dwarf would rarely get blocked because odds are you aren't going to hurt him and humans would be somewhere in the middle.
You could also give them all different penalty rolls for secret weapons, so the Goblin would be less likely to send off chainsaws, bombadiers and Ball and Chain Players, the human uses the standard rolls and Dwarf would turn more of a blind eye to Deathroller and Bazookas.
Balanced, probably not, but it would be a hell of a lot of fun. CPOMB the ref
Also throwing a rock at the ref would be good |

Anyone have any links to the 2nd ed rules?
My book is long lost now. |

Search for "blood bowl 2nd ed pdf" and you got it.
I'm really one for the old 2nd edition rules. The whole team management part with paying wages/disenchantment, training session to get rerolls, apoth brewing potions, injuries that could keep a player out for the rest of season, the rookies with star potential etc.
And ofc refs on pitch. Being able to knock down and foul the ref is something find myself missing from time to time. |

2nd edition pah.
You young-uns dont know you been born.
1st edition was where it was at.
Big Guys the size of houses.
Galak on the pitch.
A turn for werewolves to change from human form.
2 movement phases.
Attack OR tackle.
Cool, rolling your cool to catch a ball.
Playing until the unlikely event of someone scoring 3 td's. Or, more likely, the death of just about everyone.
1st edition was horrible. Like the 1970's. But we loved it and made it work. |

Didn't there used to be a skill called Trip Up? Or something along those lines where a player didn't lose their TZ when knocked prone? That would be quite a nice skill to return. it could add a nice new tactical element to things. |

how about the Bombadiers?
I would be thrilled to have the bombers back!
The goblins could actually show there strength, there is nothing like blowing a hole in a oponents def and running through with a Gobbo for a td , or doing it twice in one gamne for the win, this client is sooooo missing the bombers its not funny , so if were going to be wishing here , wish for the client to be unbroken, and yes the bombers were a big part of the 2nd edition, even more so in the 6th |

purlplechest -- someone else who played 1st edition! Played a league in college with the 3 touchdown rule for old times sake -- talk about looong games.
I really liked 2nd edition as well: magic items, more spells, Obese. |

I still have my 1st edn box! Complete with the little cardboard mens and plastic stands.
It was - as PC says - almost impossible to play a full game, but was amusing. |
