like it, probably wouldn't use it overly much.. but could imagine the tournament possibilities in a division where the classical teams are used. let's say for example that the 21 best coaches (determined somehow) got their pick of the best teams of the 21 standard races and battled it out with eachother. Maybe not exactly what you are proposing but close enough!

All sorts of competitions, leagues and 1-off matches are possible. Thanks to Britnoth, he's just kicked me off on another train of thought. He'd like to see National Teams, such as Orcs, Amazons, High Elf etc, where a team is edited to pick the very best individual (living) players from any team in Fumbbl. The possibilities for competitions is nearly endless, and this idea is great, expanding on the 'represent your race' idea and taking it into real-world football type arenas.

Once the page is working, and the editor is being used, there's potential for dozens of types of uses, leagues, tourneys etc. That tourney not quite to your liking? Create your own! That idea good, but not thought through to your liking? Take it further! Could be a great laugh, this.

Truly a section for experiments and power gaming freaks, but it will hopefully provide an avenue to avoid attempts at cheating. After all, every Classic Team will be thoroughly checked, and pretenders won't be tolerated.

If anyone feels like volunteering for checking/approving duties, as long as your names not inquisitorpustus Very Happy feel free to PM me. Should have an early version up within the week, fingers crossed. And whilst any interest at the moment is greatly appreciated, I hope specific references to teams past and present don't clog this thread, as I have to read it all. Please make all the suggestions and comments on the service as you want. I am sure there will be another thread pop up once the service is available for bragging about your team, or "they don't want to be in classics, they're n00bs.." or "..those Dark Elves of Coach X were fer deadlier at 300TR.."....that sort of thing. Thanks.

dunno. btw deathgerbil that team was well over 650TR! i think its on my flatmates computer who also plays on fumbbl so ill have to see if he is still about! Smile

We did something like this ages ago, letting each coach pick any players he wanted from any of his team (retired or active, alive or dead) and create an all-star team, then we battled it out, i know i was knocked out in the first round, and i cant tell you who won, but it was kinda fun!

anyway... i was looking through galaks site and found the old classic 2nd edition teams done up to LRB. i jazzed them up for use in the java client...

I have no idea how to host web pages so there is the html for someone who knows how to put it up on the user guide!

ive just finished editing the classic 2nd ed undead and chaos teams over on galaks site so you can use them on javabbowl

brownrob: thanks for putting your name forward, showing interest and all that, but this thread is for discussing the idea, offshoots etc, I have already asked posters to stick to comments, suggestions etc and not refer to specific teams or players.

PLEASE: Any further team rosters, players, links to old match reports with a comment like "use this team!" and general stuff that isn't for this thread. Once these things can be actioned, I'll be happy to start a new thread, or if anyone feels a burning desire to post a load of gobbledegook that someone could turn into a roster in the wee small hours by candlelight and a supply of pro-plus, feel free to start one yourselves Smile

Just FYI, matches with .zip files go back to July 23rd, 2003. Any match with a match ID lower than 85657 does NOT have a .zip file saved, as far as I can tell.

I've been working on a database to upload and display old rosters. So far, I have the basic stuff working. You can take a look, if you're interested, at the ROFLMAO. Be sure to drop me a note if you can think of something to add to the To Do list.
