I don't really understand why it needs to get all 'us and them', we should be striving to be a happy family, no? FUMBBL uncapped knock-out Majors are an artificial meta within Blood Bowl, of course they are. By the same token, 6 game low TV Swiss resurrection tournaments are an artificial meta within Blood Bowl, of course they are. No-one would argue differently, would they (World Cups are nine games, although that is a trivial correction)?
I realise that the character you portray, PainState, is rather attached to the FUMBBL Major tournaments, and good for you, I'm glad you enjoy them. The only point I was making is inferring too much from their results, applying them to 'Blood Bowl' as a whole or different rulesets is stretching it too far. As it would be to infer too much from any artificial meta within the game in isolation.
I've softened a fair bit in my old age, but I'm sure if you dredge up forum posts from the first half of my time on site, you'll find plenty to disagree with me on regarding the my distaste for uncapped TV (or TR as was) tournaments being called 'Major'. I've become less evangelical with time and am happy to live and let live. It's OK for people to have different opinions, and you need not get all defensive. Your babies aren't going anywhere. |

I was just messing with you Goo, I do understand what you are saying and Iam fine with that.
No, my babies are not going anywhere. My twin boys are about to turn 10. In a very short amount of time you will have to compete against the "stable" of PainState as all THREE OF US WILL BE ONLINE AND SMASHING PIXELS LEFT AND RIGHT!!!!
We pulled out all my old BB stuff in the back closet and they are now painting some of my old figures.

They may not oneturn or claw, but they blodge better than anyone.
I like dark elves. They are probably the most consistent team in bloodbowl. They aren't the best for winning majors, but they are the high second tier just below the St4 claw teams/Orcs/Woodies.
What they don't do is build as impressive stat freaks as the other elf teams. And when elves win majors, it tends to be on the back of some 9/4/5/7 monster. |

Am I the only person to have won majors with darkies? No way.
Anyway, I'm back to dark elves now as I have a nice couple of stat monsters.
Bring on the UI! |

I had the feeling that the current ruleset favours teams that specialise (like Wood Elves or Chaos) vs teams that are more all-round, like Humans and Dark Elves?
Not to say those teams can't still win in the hands of a decent coach of course, but Dark Elves were possibly better pre LRB5/6?
It might be the to do with the way the cost of skills play out. Before it was better to spread skills out on your players, now it pays to load them up on a few good ones. |

I think specific to Fumbbl Majors it's also the possibility of inifinite prep games. In a setting with limited games such as perpetual league play, the main advantage of Dark Elves is that they have six positionals who are blodged up at 6 SPP. Again, Wood Elves also have that, but the Catchers are only ST2. And with AV8 on their sides, Dark Elves can keep up a good shape over a number of competitive games.
Fumbbl Majors, on the other hand, you enter with a perfectly prepped team and then you basically need the luck to keep your key players healthy for 7-8 games in a row. |
