Hello folks
I've been looking at the range ruler settings in the client and compared it to that of the real life board. Now admittedly i havent been able to find the Differencestothegame.FAQ so i cant check if this has been covered, but i have looked at all the forum topics possible and not found any related topics.
As i see it theres a discrepancy between what is allowed in real life and what is allowed on the board. To compare it ill show what is allowed in maximum length for the 4 pass ranges:
Quick Pass:
3 squares across 1 down (applies to both - no difference)
Short Pass:
Client: 7 squares across 0 vertical
Board Ruler: 6 squares across 2 vertical
Long Pass:
Client: 10 across 3 down
Board: 10 across 2 down
Long Bomb:
Client: 13 across 5 down
Board: 13 across 1 down
I measured the ruler on the board from dead centre and i'm more than happy for folks to scrutinise this, like wise if it turns out this is in the differencefromgame.faq then i stand corrected. Just wondered why it was so.... |

the ruler is "nicer" in JBB than for the board game. |

Best of JBB ruler is that it's just implemented, no arguing about wich players can intercept or what's the actuall range of this odd pass, I really don't mind little differences... but nice to know, I'll check. |

Well, the board ranges you show are wrong for the second band, because the bands are 3 7 10 & 13. They go up 3 4 3 4.
Admittedly, your up and downs may be slightly diff, but who cares. |

Spiskit, my measurements dont count the throwers square on the board ruler. it counts 6 and a bit squares from the thrower, and because the longer range is taken when the line of the lower band cut through the target square, it has to be 6 across from the throwers square and 0 vertical as the maximum short pass range. I just always thought the client mirrored the board game exactly and so tended to be sure of my ruler ranges when recently playing real life games; clearly i was wrong! |

Actually, in the client, you can throw 3 squares across and 2 down. It may look like it's a short pass, but if you check the log you'll see that it's treated like a quick pass. |

Gumo you are a true scientist. I have often wondered if Javabowl client was kinder than the board; certainly for long passes. I have often thought: I can't pass THAT far, can I? |

Your only a useful Dane, if the client uses the same thing; if not, I can imagine the ire of a player if his 5 plus pass actually needed a 6. Lets find out. |

1-I am not a Dane. (but like many of them; seems their attitude is generally compatible with mine)
2-Kfoged made it and is a (useful) Dane. (damn good coach too)
3-Try and get NEAR his win/loss percentage before making such silly comments. You look like a fool now. |
