While an Orc coach moaning about diversity is the comedy du jour. I'd like to take this time to push the idea of racial quotas. Basically you can only make a team from group A if you have a team from group B, or two teams from Group C. It would increase both the diversity of opponents, and the possible pool of teams on any given draw, creating better match ups. This is the only way diversity will ever occur in Blackbox.

Maybe we take steps to address the diversity issues on our own?

Who'd be interested in a [B] diversity metagroup? In order to participate you would have to field a stable of teams ranging across the various races... the E.L.F. categories seem suitable if I can find them again.

Westerner - Are my teams diverse enough? I wouldn't want more than 4 as I don't get to play the team I want to play as it is.

Reposting the E.L.F. categories for reference:

Cat A (Brutal): Dwarves, Chaos Dwarves, Khemri (-2)
Cat B (Strong): Chaos, Orc, Ogre, Undead (-1)
Cat C (Average): Amazon, Human, Norse (0)
Cat D (Elf): Dark Elf, High Elf, Pro Elf, Wood Elf (+1)
Cat E (Odd): Necro, Lizard, Skaven, Stunty, Vampire (+1)

Here's a first stab:
1) Number in brackets is Diversity Points. Your stable must have a total of at least 0 points.
2) Minimum of 3 teams
3) Each registered team must play at least 1 game per month (it's your responsibility to enter sufficient rounds for to get each team at least 1 game)
4) Highest win% of the month (on a per coach basis) wins the trophy

I like the categories, it might work. Although there will be a lot of disposable 3 games and chuck Norse and Zons, I'd make them -0.5 perhaps?

Also, some of the delineations seem awfully arbitrary. Are Ogres really less bashy than chaos dwarfs? ANd I'd make Orcs -2, simply because there's too many Orc teams as it is

As for the trophy, I envision a tourney (even if it's just an 8 player knockout) between the coaches with top ratings (whatever that is, win %, colour of shoes) every period.

And no forced activation. You have to have the teams, and you have to play them if the get selected. But you don't have to set them as prefered

I sugest 3 simple rules (or codes of conduct)

1. If you coach Dorfs, you loose the right to whine about anything (Including world war and holes in the ozone layer)

2. If you coach Khemri you loose the right to whine about anything... Exept people coaching Dorfs.

3. If you couch Orc you loose the right to whine... Nah, who am I kidding, Orc coaches will always* whine Smile

*Im not claiming that all orc coaches are whiners... Its just that most whiners are Orc coaches Twisted Evil

So, criticizing other peoples sense of humor is considered constructive or funny then?

As someone mentioned, these could be rearranged a tad...
For ELF dorf & CD teams are tough cause of all the tackle making dodge less good .... in a more general environment possibly these could be rearranged, especially as Ogres are decent when matched up by TS, just a bit weak when matched up by TR. I'd probably go:

Khemri, Orc, Ogre
Dorf, CD, Chaos, Undead
.... the rest as mentioned.

Wouldn't this scare away most newcomers? And also some of the people who actually like playing orcs? The result would probably no be that there were more vaired matchups, rather that there were no matchups at all.

Hey Vellian,

For now it's just an idea so feel free to make whatever team you like (including Orcs).

Personally I have no problem with coaches playing Orcs or any other race. However, [B] suffers from a lack of coaches. Many coaches have said they would be willing to play more [B] if there was greater racial diversity, so I made the suggestion in an attempt to broaden B's appeal.

You could use the scheduler to encourage racial diversity, by adding an extra suitability factor to the matchup scores.

e.g.
Prospective match is the race you played most recently: x0.900
Prospective match is the race you played next recently: x0.905
Prospective match is the race you played third recently: x0.910
...
...
...
Prospective match is the race you played least recently: x1.000

The only potential problem there I suppose is that if everybody and his dog plays a single orc team, the one guy with other teams will hardly ever play with his own orcs.

(Although that is really a more general symptom of the scheduler trying to get the as many matches as possible though. The players with more "helpful" stables of teams will always be fitted around to accommodate the less helpful. It might be better to have the scheduler not schedule players at all who are hard to schedule, if by doing so it can get better matchups for everyone else. That might encourage people to have more/a wider variety of teams. Wink )
