Carnis I think you are still missing the point people are trying to drive home. The reason the combination of MB/PO is not as popular in Lakrillo's league is because it is more evenly based. The problem you are experiencing is due mainly to the composition of your league.

I'd agree, but I doubt the 8th or 9th added guard to a st team in lakrillo's league is more critical than the first mighty blow piling on. There's not a single player with both skills yet there's room for over 40 mighty blows & guards in the teams I checked. Imo the skill is underrated in their league not because of guards but because people don't wanna go prone for a block (or they haven't done the maths on the skill).

Edit: Found 1 dwarf blocker with mg/piling (cant recall the team though). Didn't seem like he was preferred as the guy who gets to blitz though (what with his MA4 & all).

And really, having both skills on 2-3 players is fearsome enough, can still have 7+ guards with that. Do you have some playtest evidence to back your claim? And yes, guard is a great skill not to be underrated.

Problem... it's as you have stated.
Solution... Require a DRAFT for your league. Split EQUALLY between Bashers, Ballers and Betweeners (exclude Goblins Halflings Vampires and Ogres allowing them to be chosen without restriction).

Let's say there are 16 teams. Slip of paper with coach name in the hat.
Coach 1 is drawn he makes his choice... let's say Dwarf... that's 1 BASHER
Coach 2 is drawn... He wants High Elf... 1 BALLER
Coach 3 gets Dark Elves, Coach 4 gets Woodies, Coach 5 gets Skaven... 4 BALLERS
Coach 6 want Skaven too, and Coach 7 chooses Woodies... 6 Ballers MAXED OUT
That's ALL the Ballers allowed... sorry better luck next draft.

Granted some coaches will choose Vampire or Goblin etc...
But that will balance your league better.

NEXT STEP... schedule the matches... try Swiss style as it is simple and quick.

ROUND 1
Still 16 teams... 4 Divisions, 4 teams each... you must play your Division
Start league play with Divisions chosen randomly (or however you like)
This will get everybody a few matches the will not like.

ROUND 2
If the Bashers DO dominate they will be forced to duke it out in round 2.
Top 4 Teams of each Division face off against each other. Bottom 4 do this also.
2nd place Teams and 3rd place Teams ALSO play each other.
This should match the teams and/or coaches into a group they are equal to.
This allows the teams that took a pounding early to regroup.

This puts ALL teams at 6 games total. 3 in each division they have played.
Then you go to OPEN PLAY stressing that they only play teams that they have not yet played.
Allow a MAX of 6 games in OPEN PLAY so that they schedule themselves wisely.
This will let them DODGE 4 opponents they do not wish to play.

Then start the League Tournament in any manner you like.
Although I like to allow people who won their Division in Round 1 to receive a 1st round Bye in the Tournament. That gives all teams incentive to WIN in Round 1.
I know that unbalances the # of teams to start with, unless some teams aren't allowed in.
But you can then SEED the Tournament allowing other BYES or PLAY IN GAMES to even the #'s.
