Why are Pro Elves so unpopular? They only have 17 active teams in the Blackbox, but for me they seem like a pretty good outfit. Maybe not an "elite" team but certainly top tier?

The only teams played less are Ogre, Vampire, Halfling, Goblin even Underworld have more active teams?

Wood Elves are faster and War Dancers are brutal ball-threateners. Dark Elves have great Defense. High Elves are solid all-rounders. Pro Elves... What do they do again? I would venture a lack of solid niche adds to their lack of main-stream popularity.

I'm also generally considering lumping most of the elves together rather than view them as completely distinct races.

cos they have rubbish fluff. all the rest are Tolkienesque (or D&D esque). Pro elfs are just a silly GW invention.

Well pros are probably the best elven team at 1000tv, but fall away after that. Extremely brittle and one of the worst teams on defence. As they're probably the best passing outfit out there, they're most likely to score the quickest too.

This means they're defence is going to be prelonged torture. I think you'd have to be pretty good to make a good go of them in box. Obviously looking at the black cup, they can make a fist of it, however Dolls specialises in PE.

Wood elfs and dark elfs are just better, also have cool players like wardancers and witches.

To me the pro elfs seem better than high elfs but I don't know, maybe people more or less new to the game prefers the armour boost of high elfs.

I am a bit disappointed that only the blitzers have hockey masks. Sad

I think they're too middle of the road for most people and lacking character. Also I think they are perceived as the weakest at higher TVs.

I don't disagree but I find their rarity a big attraction plus their great positionals at low TVs.

I use nothing else (so far) and love them.

Pro Elves are the old Elves of 2nd Edition, when there were no WEs or HEs. I think they kept them for continuities' sake. WEs and HEs came in when GW tried to "mainstream" Bloodbowl even more into their Warhammer world (and Skaven Blitzers suddenly were called Storm Vermin etc).

Their roster was brought back as a new High Elf roster to replace the existing one, but all the High Elf fans went nuts so the BBRC kept them as a seperate race. I cant remeber which LRB this happened in maybe 1.3 or 2 hmm?

I dunno, Pro Elves are great because they are the best equiped out of all the elf teams for playing other elves, this is because they have lower player costs so have more for their money and the more blodge SS and DT you have against other Elves the better. I find them really goo dagainst all races although I struggle against Dwarves and Norse probably most of all.

I would say pro elves are great all rounders too. Same as High Elves only with the ability to score pretty much at will. I actually find them pretty good defensively as well, because they start with SS block on two players so they are only 1 skill away from being dodge SS players and 2 skills away from having Diving Tackle.

Well after infact. They went back to their roots and tried to remove/distance the link with warhammer. Ogre's and Pro Elves were the first races to do this. So yeah they were a nod towards the old 'Elf' team from 2nd ed.

They have the best catchers on Bloodbowl!!!
They are the best scorers overall (NOS to start with, ST3, just amazing).
Still, pro elves suffer on LOS even more than woodies because they cant rely on a treeman at least.
Anyway, it's my fav race Smile

pro elves suffer particularly badly from the spiral of death (you lose a few guys and then have less chance of winning while you try and get more cash to replace them, but then everyone targets the few remaining good players, then you chase money to replace them etc etc) as all the players are expensive and fragile.

High and dark elves have more sturdy linemen/loners to keep you going and wood elves can still be competitive with fresh wardancers and the tree helps to protect you.

Whilst they live pro elves are great but the costs to armor ratio kills any longevity of a team in most cases.
Also 40k (4 catchers opposed to High Elf ones) for NOS can be very expensive on defense.

Dark elves - more armor, more lols
High Elves - better linemen and thrower, worse catchers blitzers but easier to replace
wood elves - faster and treeman

I think some of that makes sense. I like pro elves but my teams all eventually become unrecoverable and I go back to the other elves

I have to chalk this up under, 'Peoples perception is their reality'

To play pro elves, you need a lot of patience and a knack for playing short handed.

I dont think you can actually compare Pro Elves to other elves but I think are more comparable to Skaven because of their AV7. Even though the Pelves have AG4, they are slower than Skaven and a little more expensive.

The Pelves would probably be selected more often if we figured out what the best first two skills are for the linos to help them live longer and contribute to defensive formations because I dont think Blodge or Dodge/Wrestle are working well enough for them.

Pro elf linos suck. Paying 10k more for a point of MA (WE) or AV (HE/DE) is often too tempting to pass up.

So? Block/wrestle+side step? Block/wrestle+fend? Something else?

|You might be right in giving them block to start and avoiding wrestle since they are already fairly slow and using up 3 of their MA could put them in too many positions where they have to cage and stuff with their catchers.

I sometimes wonder if SS then fend might work out the best for them?...and if they get a 3rd skill...leap or JU
