would it be difficult, or possible, to use gifs or swf (or other animated) files for the field in skijunkie? perhaps we could see some very original fields then Very Happy

I'm almost certain it's possible, though I'm not much good at java programming.

Java definately supports images in .gif , .jpeg and .png(JRE 1.3+) formats.

I think the best bet would be to create something and show it to SkiJunkie, if he likes it (and the idea) then I'm sure he'll consider adding it.

Just FYI, you can make .gif (or .png) versions of your images but JBB will only find them if you rename them to .jpg. It shouldn't make too much of a difference in size or quality if you save a copy as a high-quality jpeg rather than a png.

Not sure on SWF.... Animated fields (I know. you could use a static .swf) sounds cool for a brief fleeting moment and then really annoying after that.

in fact, my idea is to make an animated field so gifs (swf would be very fun too) would be necessary. skijunkie accepts gifs for the icons, so i wanted to know if it could make the same with fields (scuse my english lol)

although you can probably use an animated gif for the field (or team logos) I would be very very surprised if they animated in the game. The reason is that jbb loads the original image and then makes an internal copy, paints on the team logos once, paints on the team names in the endzones once, and continuously then uses this internal copy as the background. Painting the team logos and the team names semi transparently onto the field every time the screen is repainted is too much for java to handle nicely even on my 2.8ghz machine.

Ok, I had to try it. Making an animated gif for a field and renaming to .jpg doesn't work, as Ski expected. It only loads the first frame, apparently. It was a thought, however. I thought my snowing field was actually kind of cool... although I still think it would get annoying quickly enough.
