Probably because everyone gets to cherrypick, making it equitable.
Can't imagine where you got that avatar Matt |

But not all coaches are aware of their teams' strengths and weaknesses, many people are not able to cherrypick in the same way, making the cherrypick system unfair. Another issue is that many teams dodge unfair matches, for example a sensible Amazon coach won't never ever play against Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs in Ranked.
I would have used my orc warboss image but I can't put it in the avatar. |

Although I'm certain there are more Ranked teams due to the long history of the division, Blackbox sees about the same amount of games played as Ranked. However, your point about timezones is true as it can be difficult to get a Blackbox draw when there are few coaches around. |

but on a serious note...here's how you "fix" ranked...but before you even bother reading any further, understand that this system will never work...
to fix ranked, it requires coaches playing in the system to stop being greedy, and to both offer, and accept, fair matches...which for the most part, across the board, does not happen...
that's not to say that there are no coaches that offer fair matches, because there are...there are quite a few of them actually...but as a whole, coaches are going to look out for their own best interest, and that means looking for a match where they feel they have an advantage, or they feel they can win...
it's human nature to look out for your own benefit before others...the majority of offered matches on here, i would wager, are biased towards one side or the other...
to fix it, simply offer and accept fair matches....
but again, don't hold your breath for it to ever happen...
