My Box dwarves managed to get some guard+mb+fend blockers and they are doing very well.

Every team benefits from mass fend. The problem with the skill is that IF your team does not start out with Block/Dodge all over the place its priority falls down the list until your players get to around 31+ or 51+ SPP.

Fend as first skill is pointless...so you need to atleast take block as your first skill. For most linos...is block/fend good, yep.

The other downfall of the fend plan is this. You are set in your mind that player X is going to take fend on his 31+ roll...He gets to 31+ and rolls doubles or +STAT...so you push it back and then the same dang thing repeats itself at 51+ or there is another better option of normal skills that couple with your double or +STAT.

It is allmost to the level that if you plan on taking fend on a lot of players you just have to commit and ignore all doubles and +STAT because you can allways find a skill that is a little better for other things than fend. Which IMO is why you do not see a lot of teams with mass fend (5+ players with it).

Dwarf and Zon work best for the mass fend plan because they come preloaded with block or dodge and thus can take fend on 16+ with no issues. Also dorfs can couple it with stand firm and zons with sidestep on normal rolls.

And yes, Stand Firm/Fend as I have found out is a really nice combo.

Bl/SF/F/MB/PO dorf is a nasty dude. He cancels PO/Frenzy/Block. So if your ho hum CLPOMB dude blocks him and does not knock him down he stands firm and returns the PO/MB right back at him. IF he gets knocked back, well you fend so he cant PO. You get the best of both worlds now. Reduced the effects of CLPOMB as best you could (-dodge) and also have the ability to block the beasty back if he fails to knock you over.

Interesting, I was thinking about the Stand Firm/Fend combo myself. Should be pretty useful. But even more unlikely to be seen on more then two or three players than Fend alone, I guess.

Edit:
Fend + Side Step is plain awesome... had two dwarven blockers with it now and they are my opponents' no. 1 hate target! Very Happy

*Rabe*

Were is the break tackle on your Agility Monster blockers?...BT/DT is a really annoying prospect. Get those blockers dodging out and using that MV4 to its full benefit.

Well... Break Tackle is indeed nice (and sometimes a bad surprise to the opponent), but I only had it once so far (on a longbeard who wanted to get into the top lists as scorer). Like you outlined for Fend, it's just two far down the road, even though I skip Mighty Blow (an Piling on) completely.

My priority list for longbeards looks something like this (with exceptions for some specialists yet to be developed):

Guard
Fend
Pro
Pass Block (at least as soon as implemented)
Stand Firm/Break Tackle

...and those are only the choices on normal rolls (Side Step, Diving Tackle and Dodge being double-picks).

One thing to be careful of with Fend/Sidestep...if you sidestep next to them and fend, they can still hit for a frenzy/PO, as the only criteria for the second block is that you need to be adjacent!

I think in the short term, Norse are the best team for spam-Fend because they start with Block and don't NEED anything else on a normal roll. On doubles I usually take Guard, and the Fend/Guard helps with repositioning Guard (especially since the other Guard pieces usually have Piling On and are often laying on the ground).

Long term, I think Amazons and Dwarves would probably get more mileage out of Fend for the reasons stated by others (see Painstate and Rabe's posts especially). But as you have to wait until 16 or 31 SPPs to finally get Fend (as Zons need Block and Dwarves need Guard), it does make it harder to get 3 or more Fend linemen-type players. Norse can have 3-5 Fend linemen at 6 SPPs.

Amazons it is then. I think I've ever played only one game with amazons before now. I was amazed at the stuff I could buy with the starting million. All the positionals I could want, 3 rerolls, apo and a spare player.

Thank you all!

Dark elf are best with mass fend.

blodge ss fend is a pain and having WE helps to use ssfend to end up in a better postion for crowd surfs than your opponent might of realised. Clearly this is a mega late choice so my vote for DE is only about 1800+ I imagine.

Amazon can perform similar starting ratings so try that first. Consider the fend ss synergy to get the best from it; and of course block dodge is better than fend so get these early also.

Sadly its a 3 or 4th skill and frankly that makes it a weaker skill. Still I got love for it a little

Chaos dwarves! Clawpomb their players, fend back.. Start with block tack to begin with.

Hobbos are not worth fending with, bulls dont have enough skillslots to fend with but 6 fend should be good.
