Here are some ideas for variants taken from 2ED Blood Bowl that has been floating around in my brain. The ideas/rules are modified from 2ED to work with CRP rules, thus making them easier to use and IF Kalimar wanted to use some of them, easier to code and implement, most of them use the mechanics of CRP already coded into the game. These are just some thoughts from a very old BB player who can remember playing 1ED. They are not intended to replace any rule of CRP, just add some fun and fluff for League play.

Kickers
Any player with the kick skill can as an option “kick” his opponent, instead of throwing a block/blitz. It is used just like the stab skill. With one exception, IF the kicker rolls a 2 or 3 on the “kick” he injuries himself and is removed to the BH box. The “kick” is not modified by any skills.

Fan Intervention
If a 2 is rolled for any armor break from a block/blitz or foul action before modifications the fans go nuts.
Roll a D8 and consult the chart.
1-3: Cheering fans. Roll a D3 + # of cheerleaders…winner gets a Re-roll. Tie, both teams gain a Re-roll
4: The Chunk: The fans starting tossing the flings and goblins around in the air in a grand spectacle of support. Roll a d3 +FAME. Winner gains a Re-roll. Ties, both teams gain a reroll.
5-7: In game adjustments: The coaches have come up with a new plan on the fly, yelling and screaming the new plan to the players on the pitch. Roll a D3 + #of Assistant coaches. Winner gains a reroll. Ties, both teams receive a reroll.
8: Throw a rock. The hooligans have had enough. They need more blood!!!! Work out the rock as described in the kick off result for throw a rock.

Magic Items
Purchased as inducements during the pre-game sequence, you can only purchase 2 of these items for the match. Only 1 item maybe assigned to a player. Cannot exceed 2 stat increases on the player.
Boots of Speed: 40,000 GC +1 MV
Gauntlets of power: 70,000 GC +1 ST
Jock Strap of Power: 40,000 GC +1AV
Turn on a dime cleats: 60,000 GC +1AG
Ring of the Eagle: 30,000 GC Player gains the leap skill for the match
Ring of Protection: 20,000 GC Player gains Fend skill for the match

Master Wizards
You may purchase the standard wizard for 150,000 as described in CRP rules. Master wizards cost 300,000 GC work the same as a normal wizard. A master wizard is allowed to cast a fireball, lightning bolt OR one of the following spells. YOU MUST CHOOSE ONE SPELL AS HIS SPECIAL SPELL. You do not get to choose from all of them at time of casting. Thus a master wizard can cast fireball, Lightning bolt and his special spell.

Quagmire: Cast before kickoff result. Your opponent is mired in mud and quicksand. The spell lasts for just a few seconds but that allows the kicking team to take advantage of the opponent’s slow movement. The Kick off Result is changed to perfect defense for the kicking team. After Perfect Defense is set up, play resumes as normal.

Blood for the Blood God: This wizard obviously is a follower of the Ruinous Powers. His tendrils of magic infects the minds of the spectators to go berserk in battle lust and fury, they want BLOOD!!!
Cast before kickoff. The kickoff result is automatically a pitch invasion result. Resolve pitch invasion as normal and resume play.

Specter of DEATHAn amethyst wizard stands up in the crowd and compels the grim reaper himself to appear above the stadium. He points his bony finger at a player…..the power of Death takes his soul…RIP, Dead, pushing daisies or just crumbles to ash.
Cast before kickoff. One player on the opponent’s team wets his pants as he draws the attention of Death. A random player on the Opponents team is selected. He is hit by the magical powers and auto fails his armor roll and rolls 666 on the injury and CAS roll. Apoth can be used to cheat death on the chosen player.

Heroic Leap A grey wizard rises in the crowd and cast his spell. The player has the power of grey magic to fly in the air for a short burst.
Cast before you turn. Select one of your players. That player gains the leap skill; normal rules for leap are used. Except the player does not have to roll for the leap, it is automatically successful. This of course silences the crowd in a display of leaping skill, after a second they realize what just happened and they go nuts, cheering this display of magical skill.

Apothecaries
Apoths use the standard rules found in CRP. But they are allowed during the pre-match to purchase potions during inducements. They are allowed to only brew 2 potions for the match. You must have an Apoth on your roster to be able to purchase potions.

Potion of Leadership: 50,000 GC. One player gains the Leader skill for the match.

Magic Sponge: 50,000 GC. One player automatically passes his KO roll to get back into the match. Must declare use before KO rolls are made.

Miracle Max’s potion: 100,000 GC. The potion prevents a SI-MNG and place the player in the reserve box. Must use immediately when a player receives a SI-MNG result.

Potion of Jumping: 50,000 GC. Player receives the Jump Up skill for the match.

Potion of the Boar: 30,000 GC. Player receives the Thick Skull skill for the match.

Potion of Luck: 20,000 GC. Player receives the Pro skill for the match.

The problem with the bracers is that they basically work just like the Lightning Bolt spell.

I do like the bracers but they are redundant when it comes to CRP. For CRP balance you would probally also have to make then a one shot deal.

So lets take a stab for the heck of it.

Bracers of Smashing
At the start of your turn a player who has the bracers may make a block/blitz a oppponent. He auto Ka-Pows with CL/MB. You cannot Pile On with the Bracers.
After the block the power of the bracers is used up and they grumble to dust.

Cost: 100,000 GC

Fouling

There are now three types of fouls. Sneaky,Blantant and Spearing Blatant. When you select foul you must then select either Sneaky or Blatant or Spearing Blatant.

Sneaky Fouls

These fouls are handled in the exact manner as fouling in the CRP rules with one exception. Players with the Sneaky Git skill are only ejected IF they roll a double on the injury. Thus a Sneaky git only has a 1 in 6 chance of ejection on a succesful sneaky foul. Dirty Player can be used on sneaky fouls.

Blatant Fouls
You dont care about the ref, in fact you smile at him as you stomp your poor victim in the groin.

Blatant fouls give you +1 on Armor check or Injury. It does couple with Dirty Player. Thus a DP player would get +2 on Foul rolls.

This type of foul is so obvious that ejection is a straight up 4+ on D6 ejection roll, regardless of the result of the foul. Sneaky Git does not work with a Blatant Foul.

Spearing Blatant Foul

Your player has just had it with the bad calls today. He smiles at the ref and runs at an opponeet on the ground and lunges in the air and spears him with the crown of his helmet right on his chest.

A Spearing Blatant Foul is worked out exactly like a Blatant foul. There are 2 exceptions
1) the fouler adds +1 to the Armor check only and he is placed prone next to his victim and must make a AV check with no modifier. Spearing Blatant Fouls do couple with Dirty Player so the fouler would get a +3AV check OR +2 injury check if he was dirty and +2/+1 if he was not a DP.

2) This type of foul is so "over the top", so obvious. The crowd is going nuts, the opposing team is screaming bloody murder. The Ejection roll is with a +1 modifier..Thus a Spearing Blatant Foul is ejected on a 3+ roll. Sneaky Git does not work on a Spearing Blatant Foul.

One of the issues that is very clear on alternate 2 Ed. rules, the optional cards found in CRP or heck any other "idea" that is throw out there. Most of them are invocked in the pre match sequence during inducements. Which means they are tied to gold. Which brings up the point about CRP, that gold actually has no value in the game, that is a seperate discussion.

Right now coaches are very very leery of putting up petty cash. Thus the favorite NEVER seems to purchase inducements. Well then what is the point of adding all these nice goodies if no one will every buy them? Just looking at them from a distance, longing to get their hands on a magic item or hire a master wizard or take a swim in the nasty tricks deck. Or forcing the league to have really unbalanced TV match ups just so someone can actually have fun buying some goodies. That dont seem fun to me.

League Inducement Money

In order to promote purchasing of all these nice goodies, leagues could hand out FREE inducment money to play with. The comish of each league when setting up a tournament could enable free inducement money that both coaches get to play with. The value could be between 10,000 all the way up to a million gold. Let the league decide for themesleves.

I realise this specific issue has come up on the wish list but I feel the need to stress that allowing free inducement money to purchase these goodies is allmost a must IF the cards, 2ED ideas or anything else that requires cash to purchase is added as a option.

You could make that a star player just like the majority of other secreat weapons. Available to Chaos, Chaos Pact and Nurgle.

Good luck coding that....it would be a dog in heat.

But I like the idea. Smile

Maybe...BUT

It would be trully OP IF...you could pick your victim AND you could not use the apoth on him AND he cost 150,000 instead of 300,000.

OR

If the concern is that it might be OP due to auto death with apoth...Then make it like a lightning bolt.

Death must hit your player with his spell. If he rolls a 3+ the player is hit and dies. If you roll a 1-2 you danced with Death and lived to tell the tale.

But then you could argue that it is not worth 300,000 GC.

And say it is not in the spirit of 2ED. which would defeat the purpose to begin with.

As with all of this stuff IF it was implimented would be optional for the league Comish to decide to begin with. So who cares if it has leanings towards OP? It is for fun after all.
