A bit late in the day, but I hope you enjoy these recaps anyway.

Week 13
NWC North vs. NWC South

New York Rats 4 - St. Luna Cardiac Cardinals 1

Pitch Invasion stunned two Cardiac Cardinals and five Rats, including OTT specialist Ratt Snell. New York sent the ball in with a different gutter runner. St. Luna marked him, but went for the chainsaw foul on Snell before blitzing, resulting in a KO, an ejection, and a simple dodge for New York to go up 1-0. St. Luna moved the ball up and caged. A 1d Strip Ball blitz freed the ball, but it was caught by a nearby Cardinal. He tried handing it back to a werewolf the turn after, but the catch was dropped. A Rat made 5+ dodge 5+ pickup to steal the ball out of three tackle zones, as well as other die rolls. St. Luna blitzed him for a Wrestle Both Down the turn after, but missed the pickup, and New York retrieved the ball for the second touchdown. St. Luna tried to score in the last two turns of the half, but a 1d Strip Ball blitz and a lack of respect for tackle zones let New York prevent that. The Cardinals restarted, getting a cage forward on turn 2. A -2d blitz took down the ball-carrier, but the dodge into a tackle zone failed for New York this time, and St. Luna cut the lead in half. Ratt Snell finally woke up, though, and a mere turn later made it 3-1. St. Luna tried for a two-turn touchdown, but failed a pair of GFIs into the end zone. New York grabbed the ball, passing it forward and outrunning pursuit to score a fourth time on turn 8.

NWC East vs. NWC West

Green Back Smackers 2 - B.Aires Tangueros 0

Short multiple players, including two big guys, B.Aires got a whopping 950k of inducements, spreading those across nine separate purchases. Green Back collected the ball and moved in. A 1d hit worked out well for the B.Aires on turn 1, MNGing a +ST lino, but the same Tanguero Skulled a 1d through reroll on the second turn. Green Back moved in, but the B.Aires wizard knocked over several Smackers, and the ball-carrier was taken down. B.Aires passed the ball back to midfield, but failed a catch. Multiple Smackers surrounded the ball, and Green Back got it back the next turn, passing it forward to a player in scoring distance, but he failed the GFI into the end zone and needed the apothecary to stay in the game. A Tanguero went for the ball, but the team reroll was spent on a dodge, and the pickup fail gave Green Back an easy surf and the pickup to score. B.Aires moved in with three turns left. Green Back Skulled a hit to end a turn early, but B.Aires responded with a snaked pass. Green Back took possession for the last turn of the half. B.Aires suffered further when the ref ejected their induced chainsaw even after a bribe. The Tanguero advance was stopped dead by the Smackers after one turn, and B.Aires could not find good blocks. They managed to open a path with a -2d a couple turns later, but their ball-carrier failed a GFI, and Green Back took possession, moving the ball back across the half and up into a sideline cage. B.Aires' last attempt at the ball failed a GFI to CAS the only nearby Tanguero, and Green Back had time to pick a player to score with.

AWC North vs. AWC South

Detroit Delvers 1 - Argentine Noldorins 0

Quick Snap and a lot of Pushes let Detroit surf a Noldorin for Badly Hurt on the first turn, with a second inflicted more honestly on the second turn. Two more CAS and a KO followed on turn three. Despite the severe manpower disadvantage, Argentina sprang the ball on a 1d blitz. Rain and a tackle zone stopped the next pickup attempt from Detroit, and Argentina stole the ball deep in their own zone. It changed hands a couple times, and Detroit surrounded the Noldorin ball-carrier - +ST +ST +AG Fernando Fingon - against the sideline. Fernando still had a 2d blitz to break free, but failed the following dodge. Detroit got the ball back, fouling Fernando out, and scored on turn 8 after another failed Noldorin dodge. A Noldorin started the second half by snaking a dodge to kill himself - ironically, the same player who had been saved from death during the first half by Argentina's apothecary. Argentina passed the ball forward, but their carrier had nowhere safe to go, and was taken down. A Delver took possession briefly before Argentina took it back. The new ball-carrier stayed upright for a turn, handing the ball to their thrower, who tossed it downfield. Detroit got the interception, though, with Safe Throw failing to intervene. Argentina had no plays left to tie the game, leaving their players on the ground while the Delvers tried and failed to transfer the ball to someone who wanted the SPP.

AWC East vs. AWC West

Surrey Serpents 3 - Stone City SkullCrushers 0

Surrey hit and moved in, working their skinks around one side with the ball while their bigger guys kept the SkullCrushers occupied. Stone City marked the ball-carrier, but he got help to blitz the marker off and run in to score. Stone City's first pickup attempt of their possession failed, and Serpents ran in. The SkullCrushers used their wizard to take out a Serpent in the backfield, and went for a relay to a forward blitzer, but the first catch failed, and multiple Serpents got the to the ball. Stone City bounced it into only one tackle zone but still couldn't make the pickup. Surrey failed one of their own. Stone City's next turn was ended by Diving Tackle, and Surrey made sure that neither team could score before the half. Surrey got a Blitz to start the second half, getting to the ball but not catching it. Stone City tried for the blitz/pickup as the first action of their turn, and when that failed Surrey was able to convert for a second score, perming a catcher in the process. Stone City moved the ball up, but were quickly surrounded. A risky handoff was successful, but the followup dodge was not, and a saurus grabbed the ball out of the air and ran. Two more SkullCrushers were permed before Surrey took the third touchdown. Stone City tried for a final score, but their ball-carrier was trapped against the sideline and failed a dodge, then the pickup a turn later.

Week 14
NWC North vs. NWC South

Tamper Bay Baconeers 1 - New York Rats 1

Tamper Bay got the ball up to the line of scrimmage, moving around instead of forward. An end-of-turn lightning bolt on a New York safety - Wrestle/Horns/Strip Ball gutter runner Don Ratnard - missed, and Don was able to spring the ball. Tamper Bay used a blitz with star Deeproot Strongbranch to bounce the ball the next turn - only for it to be caught by Deeproot! The Baconeers handed it off on turn 7, but could not arrange either a run or a TTM the next turn. A hit on New York's turn 8 killed AG4 'fling Roy Rogers, with the Tamper Bay coach having an unfortunate moment of confusion about which player had been hit and not sending in the apo. New York went with Plan A for the second half, taking a one-turn touchdown with Ratt Snell. Tamper Bay found success at removing Rats from the field, taking out five over their first five turns of the second half, and kept New York from blitzing the ball-carrier, but could not make much forward progress, ending turn 7 still well back of the goal line. A TTM attempt in two tackle zones found the 4+ to not fumble, though, and Right Stuff also came home to allow the draw.

St. Luna Cardiac Cardinals 2 - Cleveland Children 0

Cleveland started hitting, but St. Luna drew first blood, BHing a goblin, then fouling ClawPOMBer Brandon Weeden for -AV to go with his niggle, likely a retirement injury. St. Luna continued to manhandle the Children, trapping the remnants in their own half and stealing the ball on turn 5. They stalled on turn 7, prompting Cleveland to lightning bolt the ball-carrier, but his armour held up, and he made the pickup to score at the half. St. Luna's offensive drive continued the beats. Cleveland managed to dodge one player onto the ball-carrier for a 1d, but rerolled a Push into a Skull, and St. Luna went up 2-0. The Children moved in, getting the ball past the line, but a failed dodge let the Cardinals spring the ball. Cleveland couldn't find the dice to resist further, but a failed pickup and then failed catch ended the game before St. Luna could score again.

AWC East vs. AWC West

Slann Frogcisco 49ers 2 - Alethkar Shard Warriors 1

The Shard Warriors caged up, but were quickly surrounded by 49ers, and were only able to shove them around, not take them out. A niggled Slann Frogcisco blitzer did for himself on a failed GFI, though, and Alethkar moved up a bit. A Leap blitz Wrestled the ball free. Alethkar reclaimed it, but lost time, and Slann Frogcisco's kroxigor used Break Tackle to spring the ball again. Alethkar failed the pickup. Slann Frogcisco did likewise. On turn 7 with the ball still at the half, Alethkar tried a fireball, but couldn't take enough 49ers down to try to score. Slann Frogcisco made rolls to perm a wight, move Shard Warriors off the ball, pickup, pass, and catch, taking a turn 7 score. Alethkar hit and fouled on their last turn, CASing a rookie linefrog, but suffered an ejection when a Get the Ref bribe turned up 1. Bad KO rolls left Alethkar down players for the second half. The 49ers promptly took out star Setekh, but their own foul also resulted in an ejection through bribe. Slann Frogcisco went for a score on the next turn after having already used a reroll, and a failed Leap dumped the ball free. Alethkar's wolves tag-teamed to move the ball forward. Slann Frogcisco's blitz didn't free it, and Alethkar made dodge and GFI to score. Slann Frogcisco held the ball back briefly before running it in, but did not close the cage, and Alethkar easily took the ball-carrier down. They failed a dodge on the way to claim it, though, and Slann Frogcisco's catchers relayed the ball forward. A Shard Warrior almost marked the ball-carrier, failing a GFI on the last step. Slann Frogcisco fouled him, but did not break armour, and he -2d blitzed the ball-carrier on Alethkar's turn 7. Slann Frogcisco accepted the Both Down that took down their ball-carrier instead of the Pushback that would have forced the score, Wrestling down the nearby Shard Warrior on turn 8 and making the pickup to score and win the game.

Lindisfarne: precision bidding ftw?

3-0 win w/ 7 Cas, inc. 1 RIP

With five regular season games left, we only have thirteen teams left in contention for the twelve playoff spots. Check out the standings in the usual place, and enjoy these recaps!

Week 14
NWC East vs. NWC West

Kansas Raptors 1 - Green Back Smackers 1

Green Back made a long pass across the field and moved in. A Raptor managed a 2d blitz, but rerolled into Both Down/Skull to take himself down. The Smackers got to scoring distance before Kansas used their wizard to spring the ball, but a failed dodge let Green Back regain possession, and they blitzed a path to score a turn later. Kansas started their drive, but failed a pickup, then a handoff, then a dodge. Green Back missed a pickup of their own, and Kansas got the ball just into scoring distance. The blitz moved the ball-carrier a step closer, and Kansas scraped the marker off, but the GFI into the end zone on turn 8 came up a 1. Kansas failed a pickup on their first turn of the second half, but made the second, and made rolls to score a turn later. Green Back got a touchback on their drive, but stayed near the line instead of rushing in. Raptors quickly marked the ball-carrier, and a failed dodge kept Green Back from trying to get away. ST4 and Blodge kept the Smacker ball-carrier upright, but Prehensile Tail tripped him up when he tried to dodge clear. Rain and a tackle zone kept Kansas from collecting the ball. Green Back got it back, but then failed a dodge, and the crowd sent the ball across the field. A saurus actually made the pickup, but then failed a GFI on his way to the handoff, removing the last chance either team had to break the tie.

Lindisfarne Midnight Sons 3 - Saphery Poets 0

Lindisfarne caused some damage before moving the ball up into a cage. Saphery fireballed it, KOing the ball-carrier, but the ball was left in two 'Son tackle zones. Saphery sent Morg 'n' Thorg in on a blitz, but he didn't clear the ball, and was CAS'd a turn later by Lindisfarne's snow troll, Angrboðason. Saphery tried bouncing the ball, but Angrboðason snatched it out of the air, and a -2d attempt was rerolled into Skulls, killing the Poet trying it through apo. Lindisfarne used their blitzes to move the troll forward, making a Loner roll to score. Saphery was down to five players for the second half, and most of those got tied up on the line, giving Lindisfarne an easy steal for 2-0. The four remaining Poets again were quickly surrounded on the next drive, and Lindsifarne went up 3-0 on the last turn of the game.

AWC North vs. AWC South

Joplin Disasters 3 - Detroit Delvers 0

Joplin moved the ball in, connecting a forward pass despite the Sun to get a Disaster through Delver lines with the ball. A failed block from the Joplin troll delayed the score for a turn, but did not put it in jeopardy, and the Disasters went up 1-0. The Delvers moved in, but were quickly surrounded, and their ball-carrier fell back. Joplin got a 1d on him to spring the ball. Detroit got it back briefly, but Joplin chain-pushed Morg over to the ball-carrier to take him down, then made another long forward pass. Detroit tried to blitz the ball-carrier, but missed the last-step GFI, and Joplin blitzed the ball-carrier free and scored for 2-0. The Delvers moved in for the second half, but were again bogged down. A failed 1d let Joplin steal the ball again, and they got clear for 3-0 on turn 5. The Disasters were finally taking damage, and Detroit got a runner in deep, but the attempted Hail Mary Pass scattered into the crowd, and it bounced away from the main concentration of Delvers. Joplin failed a pickup on turn 8, but Detroit's blitz to move the marker off the ball hit Skulls to end the game.

Buenos Aires Titans 5 - Argentine Noldorins 2

Argentina moved the ball up. Buenos Aires sprang it with a fireball, and it bounced clear of the remaining Noldorins, to be collected by a Titan and relayed forward. An attempted Both Down with Eldril Sidewinder cost the Noldorins a journeyman, and Buenos Aires went up 1-0. A Blitz from the kickoff put Eldril in close to the ball, but the catcher who went in as well snaked a GFI. Argentina grabbed the ball, but then snaked a pass, and Buenos Aires stole the ball for their second touchdown. The Noldorins moved the ball up but did not keep it safe, and Buenos Aires stole it again. Argentina could not spring it on the blitz, and the Titans made it 3-0 at the half, but not before Argentina started inflicting damage, CASing two Titans and killing Eldril. The Titans moved the ball in quickly in a full cage, but Argentina's Fernando Fingon made the 4+ dodge into the cage, hitting the ball-carrier with a 3d for an MNG. They managed to dodge a Noldorin onto the sidelines to grab the ball and then get back out, but failed the last dodge to turn the ball back over, and Buenos Aires reclaimed it for 4-0. Buenos Aires held most of their players back on the next drive, and Argentina capitalized to get on the scoreboard. A long forward pass was fumbled on Buenos Aires' next possession, and the blitz from Argentina killed the erstwhile ball-handler, letting Argentina steal the ball for 4-2. The Titans ran in again, weathering a blitz to restore the three touchdown lead.

The regular season is done. Enjoy these last recaps, and look for the individual player awards - coming soon to a forum post near you!

Week 14
NWC East vs. NWC West

R'lyeh Regulars 3 - B.Aires Tangueros 0

R'lyeh got a Blitz off the kickoff. B.Aires made things worse by misclicking a dodge, failing it through reroll. Regulars rushed the ball. A Tanguero bounced it, and B.Aires made a pickup and handoff, but fumbled a pass. R'lyeh got the ball themselves, but also missed a transfer. B.Aires took it back and tried passing again, only to fumble once more, and a Regular made the pickup. A failed dodge let R'lyeh get the ball to safety. B.Aires moved again to threaten it, but lost their minotaur and their Leader to CAS. R'lyeh used their breathing room to hand off to a warrior, scoring on turn 8. The Regulars continued to inflict damage in the second half, scoring on turn 4 and leaving only seven Tangueros able to take the field. B.Aires moved the ball up into a pocket, which was quickly surrounded. They handed the ball to their goblin and tried TTM, but that was fumbled for a Badly Hurt. R'lyeh stole the ball again for 3-0.

AWC North vs. AWC South

Nocturne Falls Honey Badgers 2 - Los Angeles Reapers 0

Los Angeles collected the ball while the teams flailed at each other. Nocturne Falls forced a mummy beside the Reaper ball-carrier, and he couldn't get free. The Honey Badgers failed to take down the blodger for a couple turns, but forced him over to the sidelines, and Legend Reggie Wight blitzed him into the crowd. With both of their ghouls hit for MNGs last game, Nocturne Falls sat on the ball for a turn, while Los Angeles surfed Reggie in turn on a -2d. The Honey Badgers got possession of the ball with their only AG3 player, wight Lonnie Rott, and he had just enough time to make it to the end zone on turn 8. Lonnie grabbed the ball in the second half, but continued hitting instead of going for the end zone. LA arranged one 1d on him, but after that he got free, scoring on turn 6. The Honey Badgers rushed the line on Perfect Defence. The Reapers' bull-to-bull pass predictably failed, and a missed pickup the next turn guaranteed no further scoring.

AWC East vs. AWC West

Essen Exsanguinators 3 - Surrey Serpents 0

Pouring Rain presaged troubles for Surrey, while Essen's AG5 vamps were seen high-fiving each other. Pitch Invasion took down four Serpents and only one Exsanguinator, and Essen used the opening created to take a two-turn touchdown. Surrey moved in, but Essen Gazed their way to a blitz on the ball-carrier. Surrey failed a pickup attempt, and an Exsanguinator stole the ball. He was taken down in turn, but the next Serpent pickup also failed. Essen snagged the ball and tossed it towards the end zone. Surrey failed yet another pickup, and the ball stayed in the end zone for Essen to collect. Surrey couldn't convert a two-turn touchdown before the half ended. The weather changed to a Blizzard for the second half. Surrey moved in, but Essen again Gazed their way to the ball-carrier to steal the ball. Surrey blitzed back, but couldn't find a Pow, and Essen moved into scoring range. Surrey tried running their krox over to mark, but he failed a GFI and Loner, then did the same the next turn. A hit drew Surrey's apo to prevent a perm before Essen finally scored. Surrey tried one more drive, but the Exsanguinator blitz took down +MA/Block/Sure Hands skink Mervyn Fernandez for a niggle, and Surrey couldn't reclaim the ball to score before time expired.

The site that I normally use to extract player stats from Fumbbl is having problems, but I had a copy from a few days ago, and think that I have manually updated it correctly. Assuming that I'm right, here are the final individual player awards of the season... as well as a big can of worms.

Quarterback - Passing yards + (2 * completions)

"Funky" Friedemann Friese of the Essen Exsanguinators has taken this category home, with a final tally of 103 yards (best in the NWFL) and 23 completions for a rating of 149. Second place was stolen by Nestor Finarfin of the Argentine Noldorins, who had a whopping 8 completions during their Week 14 loss to Buenos Aires. He comes in with 27 completions on the season for 68 yards. Jenif McDowell of the White Rock Midnight, though idle at the end of the season as the Midnight hit the beaches before the playoffs, held on to third place with 14 completions and 48 yards. An honourable mention to Seth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, Alethkar Shard Warriors, with 11 Cps and 49 yards.

Receiver - Total TDs (tiebreaker: total SPP)

Ratt Snell dominated this category, OTTing his way to 17 touchdowns as the New York Rats surged to claim the last playoff slot in the NWC. Juan Manuel de Rosas II of the Argentinian Caudillos followed with 13. Two players tied with 12, with last year's winner Mr Boddy of the Winchester Wicked Wrongdoers taking the last spot on the podium with 58 total SPP. Larson the Claw of the Butte Kickers gets to watch from the side.

Running Back - 5*TDs + Rushing Yards

Mr Boddy is the back-to-back top Running Back, adding 326 rushing yards to his TDs for a rating of 386. Valdeth of the Necropolis Priest Kings has taken second place, churning out the yardage. Mervyn Fernandez of the Surrey Serpents gets the bronze, but picked up a niggle in his last game, and we have yet to hear if the Surrey Serpents will be continuing in the league after this season.

Blocker - Most CAS (tiebreaker: least blocks)

Hrolf Hardcat of the Lindisfarne Midnight Sons has kept his lead here, with 20 opposing players taken out of the game. Skillet of the Butte Kickers is second with 17, having played one game less, and Reggie Wight comes in third with 15. Well smashed, all of you.

MVP - Most earned SPP (tiebreaker: most MVPs)

Ratt Snell's 52 earned SPP have him well out in the lead here. Juan Manuel de Rosas II trails him in this category as well with 44, and Hrolf Hardcat's beatings have put him in third with 42.

Fouler - Most fouls done

Not really a category I like, since this doesn't track results, just effort... but Thutep of the Nehekhara Guardians was the dirtiest of the dirty this season, laying 31 boots to the head. Sick Notle of the North West Walking Brawls is second with 27, while the aptly-named Jackson "The Boot" Bertoli of the also aptly-named Butte Kickers takes third with 23.

All Purpose - Cps, TDs, CAS (highest category counts normal, 2nd highest double, 3rd highest triple)

So... I am once again in a place where I dislike my scoring rubric for this category. My own "Funky" Friedemann Friese is currently tied for the lead in this category, getting 32 points off 23 completions, 3 TDs, and 1 CAS. That isn't really all-purpose. Third place is Nestor Finarfin - 27 Cps, 2 TDs, 0 CAS! He deserves the recognition he got above in the Quarterback category, but this is obviously a sign that my rubric needs updating. So, going forward, I'm going to try using a triangle weighting for the categories - 1x the highest category, 3x the second, and 6x the third. Hopefully that will give enough heft to the rounding that it produces better results going forward.

By that criteria, the player that Friese was previously tied with for the lead is now out there alone. The Green Back Smackers' Crimsonwolf II landed 11 completions, inflicted 6 CAS, and scored 3 TDs this season, making him the top All Purpose player of Season IX. Aaroon Thude of the White Rock Midnight got 6 TDs, 4 CAS and 4 completions for second place, the only player in the league to hit quad in all three. The bronze goes to Uwe "The Reaper" Rosenberg, Essen's second Legend, for 8 CAS, 7 TDs, and 2 Cps. Friese, for the record, still got fourth.

It's Aaroon not Aaron Smile

Yes, pity we couldn't get in our last 2 matches, I blame Har Ganith for ducking us for a week while they were trying to decide if it was more cowardly to play us or not.

OTS: Thanks. Always nice to be appreciated. Smile

licker: edited, thanks. I think Nestor was going to be ahead of Jenif for Quarterback anyway - he was leading even before having an 8 completion game - but it's a shame Aaroon didn't get a chance for 5.

Why not just use "compare the 3rd highest stat, tiebreaker compare the 2nd highest stat, tiebreaker compare the 1st highest stat"? That's real all-purpose.

Well, because it feels to be like "Best All-Purpose" shouldn't mean "Smallest Weak Point". I feel like an 8/7/2 player really does deserve the award more than a 3/3/3.
