what could be more interesting than me, is how many phenotypes are there? Can you name them in any other way than just listing coaches of that type? What would you call the one currently under discussion? The funotype? See what I did there?

I believe i have literally named the types how the gaming industry views them. (Post: Mar 23, 2020 - 09:01)

Let's set the table with exemplars per a suggestion:

What defines a phenotype, in your mind?

AD would probably be suited to fleshing out identifiers for the one pheno we've discussed but...

Let's think about the difference between say, Malmir and PurpleChest for instance and what separates their styles and motifs, if any.

Same thing with MattDakka and Dominik, as another example of likes to likes (in my mind at least) and what separates them from one another.

Some traits could be:

- High TV coach (plays 2000+ teams);
- Naf coach (play tourneys/very low TV, 1100 or lower);
- Ranked only coach;
- Box only coach;
- League only coach;
- Multi-division coach;
- Mono-race coach;
- Mono playstyle (plays only bash/agile/hybrid races);
- All rounded coach (plays at least 1 team per race);
- Team cycler;
- Stunty coach (plays only tier 3);
- Power gamer (plays only tier 1 in their sweetspot);
- Risk averse;
- Risk lover;
- Turn planner (thinks a lot about the turn and every possible scenario before moving);
- Improviser (makes an action, sees what happens, adjusts action by action).

Also rationale and interfacing with the game - for example, my commitment to winning 'my way' trumps orthodox play more often than not because it's fun to win doing wrong things against coaches who do right things.

Bghandras' linked article is illuminating and taps on a lot of similarities to BB.

We could call that approach "Troll gameplay" or "Cheeky gameplay".
No offence intended, just trying to find a synthetic name.

I'm not native English speaker, but contrarian seems to imply being against the common general idea.
It's not wrong but suggests to me opinions and ideas, not gameplay.
Troll and cheeky suggest that the coach has fun in making weird moves and achieving success.
Contrarian suggests just to be against the status quo, but not having necessarily fun in doing so.
Am I right?

As an aside, another trait could be "Troll builder":
makes weird skill choices.
Another trait could be "Fluff lover": writes a bio for each team, makes a logo, has player portraits.

I think I am a general contrarian in life so when I play BB it just shows up in that specific way. It's not like I'm doing it because I fundamentally disagree with risk adverse orthodox BB play, rather, I see it as limiting coaches whose mind doesn't exactly work that way and robs opportunity to be bold and daring which can win the game at integral moments.

Unorthodox? Could be ok?
Although there is a difference between unorthodox gameplay and troll gameplay.
Unorthodox could have a rational plan behind.
Troll gameplay could not necessarily achieve a result, but could frustrate the opponent and achieve a result as well sometimes.

High risk high reward? A bit dull, maybe.

Unorthodox for sure and it crops up in some ways tactically:

Propensity for -2d6, 1d6 and 3+ dodges. Like, I bet if you compared my pheno with other theorized phenos you'd see on an average basis, more of those moves pop up on the stats sheet. Like that's a measurable.

When you compare me to arktories, swampserpent and quarion8 I would expect to see a similarity of those kinds of moves as well but those types of moves come about from a fundamental outlook place.

I think another differentiation point would be 'I make stuff happen' versus 'i let my opponent do the failing'. I am so much more active on my turn trying to make stuff happen through choices I make as opposed to letting the opponent seal their own fate against my positioning.

Part of this is a reinforcement loop of playing teams that excel with that kind of 'my turn' agency - Skaven and elves in particular. A lot of how I orient with the game is based on squeezing as much out of my own moves as possible and just assuming my opponent won't fail their rolls on their turn.

Looking at skill selection, a lot of my teams have some wacky combos and 'dead skills' which I try to show love to as a 'proof of utility, no matter how marginal'.

Dakka, you remember chiding me for FA gobbos with underworld against your Vampires? I do, and I still savor that game.

My flings have:
1/1/1 record vs Swampserpent
1 loss vs MrT1212
Not played the other two (more or less) respectable coaches

MRT1212 is the sort of chap that would give up his last Rolo
