I've had the same problem with my oldest DE team, they have a negative record against every type of elf (other darkies included).

As others have stated, the problem is that the other elves are faster than you, and will generally have more agility-based skills as well. With my team I initially tried to play the agility game against them but couldn't keep up. My newer dark elves have turned out much more block-heavy, and have fared much better. A couple of extra guards will do wonders against other elves early on.

As for higher TRs, the one thing I'll say is, use your witch elves as defensive blitzers, and let your actual blitzers mix it a little bit. A block/tackle witch elf is incredibly good at taking out catcher-types, particularly if you get her MB.

Oh, and wandering a blitzer round the wide zone into the oppo's territory sometimes works too, most elf coaches i've played seem pretty paranoid about getting their throwers hit and will often divert 2 players from their attack to take out a lone blitzer.

I agree with you, Naz. Dont retire a team that you enjoy playing, just because of the lack of players. A fun team can be worth it. It will take quite a pounding for me to give up my Woodies or Norse for example.

Think of them as an AG4 human team.

Against other elven teams, what advantages and disadvantages do you have?

Advantages

1\ Your tougher than them.
Trying to cage and beat the living piss out of the pansyest of the pansy ears is workable. Being denied ST access dosen't help, but your probably going to come off better in fights.

Get the witches to push players off the field (a prone witch elf next to your opponents box is always fun since they often forget about being able to block from prone.
Make more blocks than your opponent.

(all this obviously relys on getting your squad up to strength)

Disadvantages

Other teams full of nancys are better at playing ball than you. Yeah, yeah I know your an elf, but those catches, better throwers, more cash to spend on re-rolls etc all make them more likely to sucessfully make an 'elvish' play.

so...

Set them up properly - Now don't look at my team as an example of this, if I was doing them again I'd change their setup (the stats and doubles don't help either. You have to get used to the fact that your linemen aren't just linemen and your thrower isn't just a thrower (buh?).

What I mean by that no one on your team should be being carried or is just a punch bag like other teams. Linemen need tackle and possibly diving tackle early to deal with those smug dodgy things. Even the thrower could do with block early to ensure you have the full 11 players involved in the scrap.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Darkies are all about adaption. There is no standard setup or standard tactic in your games. You just have to workout your opponents weaknessand exploit it to your own evil gains mwahahaha. Twisted Evil

you actually retired a player??? that's silly till u have 13-14 players, and can field a full team after 3 casualties...

the problem with dark elf vs other elven teams, is that you are slower... shadowing on a lineman trying to stop a 1-turner is pointless... try combinations of skills to bring things together, like sidestep and diving tackle, or leap and strip ball... and plan your team before you play each match, and decide before the match what skill u need the most for your team. after the match your mind is clouded by the last match, and u overlook your overall needs for last match's needs...

oh, and dark elves take forever to learn, so take pride in your progress Smile

The player i retired was adding about 30 to my TR which would of made rebuilding with him there very difficult money wise , I would of thought having that big a team (13-14)would give me a lot of excess TR thats not being utilised and put me more often into the lions jaw ?

Well, if you tailor your Dark Elf team to play Orcs and Dwarves you won't have to retire the team...some Dwarf team will do that FOR you. But if you insist, more players is a must. Just linemen. You need more warm bodies, or the ones you have will start to cool fast. But contrary to what TinkyWinky said, I'd never cut rerolls just to lower TR...especially if you only have 4. Darkies are an expensive team and you'll have a hard time getting enough money to replace those rerolls and replace casualties at the same time.

As for skills, sure feet is a specialized skill. (IMO) Not something you give to everyone. Same with leap (ahem...Tor!). Sure feet is best on players that are faster than most (if you get a +MA or two), cuz they are usually flying towards the endzone. Tackle is a MUST, though. Absolute must. Side step helps a ton too because it helps maintain the line. A Woodie gets a hole in the line and he's gone. Don't go the DP route, because others will retaliate and you can't afford that. Once you get 14 solid players you can if you prefer that type of game, but surely not now.

So get tackle, make the other guy roll dice, and put bodies on receivers. Oh, and punish anything that moves. Should work.

Tackle is top of my list for next blitzer or blodger who gets a skill , Sure Feet I like on my blitzers to help score and also to blitz the ball carrier from distance , I unfortunatly lost a lot of my specialists when they had the two bad games ( my ag5 mv 7 lino , and my 2 tacklers , and my DP )

When he suggested losing rerolls I had 6 , and now I have 4 , I dont mind lowering TR for the team as for me its about Team Surviral not high TR .

Some more usefull advice might be to dodge dodge and dodge. Use that manueverability to get a few 2d blocks. Never let your team get surrounded, that will deny them the ability to dodge away from danger. Never let the other team get more than one block (their blitz) a turn.

Against other elves you need pass block, side-step and diving tackle. Otherwise the only thing that will stop them from scoring at high TR is the dreaded 1,1 roll.

But fact is by making your team able to survive games vs. bashers you are down-elfing them. That means that other elves will out-elf them. Remember those other elves are not in the E.L.F. They can afford to be very good at playing elves, its all they do (at least thats pretty much what I do).
