In place of the chatbox there is a grey screen

I can't make my trillian connect to bb chat.
What am I doing wrong.
Can anybody write it out in a simple way??
I try setting up with
irc.afternet.org
set the port to 6667 and then I get no where

I'm with James Smile, cannot connect either using trillian.
