example: why can't Lizardmen Skinks get leader or nerves of steel?
obviously they can't get mighty blow because they start with 2 str, but why not the others?

because leader and NoS are traits, and skinks don't have general access

well I meant on a doubles roll, but why can skinks get general skills but not general traits? what's the difference? saurus can get both general traits and general skills. why can't skinks?

Because it's the way the rules are set up. To get trait skills (thinks like jump up, stand firm, nerves of steel, strong arm, etc), you have to have beginning access to the group with that player.

For example, a dark elf thrower can get Strong Arm because he has access to pass, but cannot get Stand Firm, as he doesn't have access to strength.

A dwarf longbeard can get Stand Firm because he has access to Strength, but cannot get Strong Arm because he doesn't have access to pass skills.

If I remember correctly, the access lists are on the back of the book that came with the box-set game you should have Wink

There are no skinks on earth (or any other world) with nerves of steel. All skinks are nervous as hell. Rules say so. Wink

Traits help make the races more specific which makes it nice that all races dont end up looking the same...

It's for balancing reasons. Skinks that could easily get skills like pass, catch, sure hands and block would make them more valuable than their cost.
