I can understand why you dont wanna partake in these kind of threads, i get that you may not be interested in discussing these sorts of things. I can understand that you dont wanna read these kind of threads, i get that too, you may find it pretty dull. What i dont really understand is why you dont wanna allow other people to discuss these matters here?

I'm not having a pop at you guys or anything, i myself dont really want to discuss these sorts of things on fumbbl either, but i could not give $%*! what others choose to discuss. I tend to prefer having arguments face to face as it cuts down on the insults. I guess I just want to understand why you guys do this.

Guappo - I think it all boils down to the fact that there's already another thread on this matter. I guess they just didn't see the need for ANOTHER one of these things.

Maybe I am confused, but doesn't someone have to be referring to race in order to be racist? You can change religion, but not your race. When you have a prejudice against a religious group, wouldn't that be religious discrimination?

No, you're not confused.
MickeX is the confused one. He's using the term 'racist' in a context as dictated by socialist dogma, at least here in Sweden. That means that the word has lost almost all of its meaning as you and I know it. The word really is on the verge of becoming utterly useless in the national debate here in Sweden since its use usually doesn't imply any connection with anything even resembling racism but is rather used as a common derogative. If you ever again encounter a Swede talking about racism and you feel like you don't get it, it's sound to suspect that it is he who is confused.
This might all be due to the fact that we don't have much experience with true racial issues here. In any case, a foreigner trying to debate using the English language should see obvious obstacles like these and would do best trying to make themselves understood with English terms and stop using special provincial terminology. It really should be all about getting the message across.

Well, so far I don't think I've ever spoken to an immigrant in Sweden from a poor country who hasn't faced blatant racism. However, it also was a long time since I ever talked to a swedish "liberal" who cared.

If you'd bothered to read into the subject you're trying to debate, Skrofler, you'd have noticed that the discourse I'm leaning on here is borrowed from american antiracist movements rather than swedish politics.

Of course we could use a definition of racism where any argument that hypotethically could be said to only be talking about religion is automatically considered non-racist. However, the consequence would that some half of the antisemite pictures of the 1930:ies would be defined as non-racist. The western stereotypes of african religions would suddenly not be an issue of racism anymore, but only an issue of "enlightenment". The mass murders of "heathens" all over earth would suddenly be taken out of the history of racism. Is it that difficult to see that declaring people's religions as inferior is a part of declaring their nations, their etnicity or their cultures inferior?

Islam is considered an inferior religion in the west, because arabs (and iranians as well, as most people on earth) are considered inferior people.

The cartoons in JP aren't "satirizing Muhammed". The cartoons doesn't actuallt elaborates about any stories about Muhammed, because few people in the West has bothered to get to know them. The only connection between them and Muhammed are the stereotypes of middle eastern men.

I don't think a single danish racist would change their minds about arabs the slightest if all of them converted to christianity tomorrow - they'd just have to find new justifications for occupation over there and discrimination at home.
