I just got lucky with my Treeman - doubles on his first skillroll. I was thinking of giving him Pro instead of Block. Benefits of Pro are: take root only every 12th action, possible rerolling of block dice, reroll of dodge moves. Isn´t that more useful than block? What do you think?

Block pro only works half of the time.

You may also want to consider Dodge (take Break Tackle next) and Sure Feet.

How did you calculate the 1/12 odds for take root? I am coming up with 7/72 of it not working with pro.

Still, I wouldn't worry about take roots, I'd rather take block.

Depending of what type of opposition you want, Tackle could be a good choice. If you gonna elfbowl a lot then he can burn some re-rolls that way and if he's blocking on LOS there's often some guys there w/o block, just remember to use him last Cool

I'll go Block also and then Multiple Block, Pro is better if you are playing fling imho

I'd go Tackle... Most ppl try to dodge you rather than block you...

Oh... what Idolen said...

Gotta learn to read all answers before answering myself...

Block! Take root isn't that much of an issue with a MA of 2 - he's slow even if he does move... The same goes for pro for dodge rolls - if he fails hes dodge, he'll still stay on his feet due to Stand Firm... All in all, the advantage of getting Pro aren't that big if you don't have Block. Sure you can re-roll block-dice with it, but you really shouldn't be blocking with a tree that much untill it has block (and preferably make it three-dice block).

Block is the answer IMHO

You´re right, of course, I forgot proper maths here for a second Wink
Still, the benfit is quite substantial imho. Also, dodging into multiple tackle zones (always worth a try with sf) succeeds in 23.6%. The 7/72 apply to sprints too - useful for such a slow player

Pro if your Treeman throws TTMs (Halflings).
Block if your Treeman does not throw TTMs (Wood Elf).

I'd rather go pass if it is for TTMs. Doesn't matter that much if he takes root - still can throw small ones.

But as the title already mentions that it is a Wood Elf treeman ...

Another factor is that I play other elf teams most of the time. That means the treeman usually never needs block for defensive purposes. So it boils down to an advantage when throwing blocks (important for a player who earns all his spps with casualties) versus generally better chances when doing _anything_. I still think Pro might be the better choice...

(Seriously, check the news, Wood Elf coaches. Then check out the Forest Fools' past opponents. That's right, they're still here after 600 games of playing a wide variety of opponents. There's nothing to be scared of! Very Happy)

(And take Block.)
