Is it just me who finds it a bit odd, not to say annoying, that a player that passes away during a game may be awarded the MVP award, taking the precious 5 SPP to the grave?

Annoying, frustrating but funny too.

not at all. Maybe that guy gave his life to make the play that won the game ... or maybe his death saved other players from a fate worse than death. Who knows ... but it's fair enough to recognise him for the great efforts he went to in the game! Very Happy

It's the essence of the MVP award to go to a dead guy.

It's possible to die twice in 1 game and get 2 mvps post mortem with raise the dead. unlikely but i'm sure it will have happened on here somewhere.

Exactly!

Alternatively the MVP may also be awarded to a Starplayer or Freebooter.

In RL I play using the Vault rules and the only optional rule we use is the chosen MVP.

I've thought about taking it further and having the only eligible players be those who earned some SPP during the match, but there too many reasons not to e.g. the blocker who KO's 5 guys but scores no cas has probably put in a match winning performance for the team but got no spp's for it...

Voted No btw.

On the bright sight: he definitely wouldn't take further mvp awards in your subsequent matches. Very Happy

Like getting seriously injured or whatever wouldn't make people want to award MVP in real life?

Well, i think RIP is inaccurate... i believe that very few players actually die on the pitch, most are just crippled for life. they get the mvp as an award as they play their last match, and in a wooden wheelbarrow tell their grandchildren of the experience, whilst they drool sorta paralyzed and capable of moving only their head...

very morbid and graphic, i'm sorry, but a more realistic interpretation of RIP.

i also think the player can die 3+ times, saved by the apothecary, resurrected and the re-die (regen and die again also possible tho improbable)

personally i don't care if the dead player gets the mvp, means i keep the TR lower... i prefer the mvp going to a dead player than an unskilled lineman, who will spend the next 5 matches trying to get that last damn spp for a first skill...

my two golden coins

Consider it a gesture of respect to all the heroes that have died on the pitch for their brethren.

i would classified those as 'seriously maimed'. having your foot chopped off is -2ma, having a broken neck, and having to hold your head while running is -2ag, but crippled would sorta imply paralysed, or grevious bodily harm, no feet left, etc.

if a killed character is just crippled for life...how does a necromancer raise him as a zombie for his team?
