I'm sorry, I'm sure there's another thread on this, but ok...
I've played for a month using XChat, and it worked great
however, they wanted 20 bucks so I uninstalled it and got Hydra
now I can't get it to run. I've already cleared a couple hurdles that it threw in my way, but now it says I'm throttled, and I don't know what that means (aside from the fact that it's what I want to do to this infernal machine)

nevermind. It was trading between the throttling and telling me my username was wrong, and indicating it should be my e-mail address (everything before the @) even though I have 5 email addresses and I didn't use any to get or register with the product.
I just uninstalled the whole dirty mess |

You could just enter whatever, as long as it looks like an e-mail address. Your mail address won't be used for anything by the Hydra client itself - but as I said as far as I remember it doesn't have to be genuine. It's part of the info people can access openly/request from your client on irc (and in any client, though not all "require" to enter anything in that field).
Never had any problems with Hydra myself while I used it, and thought it to be a quite stable one for a beta release.
