Reminder: Maintenance weekend, 27th to 29th

A quick reminder for you all. This weekend (27th through 29th), we will be working on updating the FFB client and server for the site. We are planning to update to the BB2020 branch of the client which will involve some downtime and possibly some instability.

It would probably not be a good idea to schedule important tournament or league games to be played during this weekend. There is potential for matches being lost because of the extensive nature of the changes in the new branch.

If possible, try to not leave any matches incomplete (we hope that they will still function, but have no way to actually test this fully).

In terms of timing, the update will begin at some point after 18:00 server time on friday and both me and Candlejack will be actively working over the weekend (if necessary) to fix critical problems (focusing on server and match stability).

If the update generates more issues than we can reasonably fix, we have the option of reverting back to the current version and schedule a new weekend for the update. Hopefully, it won't come to this though.

Game Rules updated

I've just deployed FFB Client (and server) version 1.3.6 to the site which does two things:

1. Adds support for Kick Team-Mate.
2. Removes the Lightning spell from wizards.

In addition to this, the following changes have been made to the Competitive ruleset (which controls R and B divisions):

- Ogre team is updated according to Spike issue 8. This means 0-5 regular ogres on the roster and 0-1 runt punters (with above mentioned kick team-mate skill).
- The Wizard has been re-enabled as an inducement choice.

As per usual, let me know if you run into issues with the update.

New version of the FFB client

Kalimar and I pushed through a new version of the FFB Server and client to the site earlier today. While this was mainly a back-end type update, there are a few new things in this release:

1. The new (BB2016) version of argue the call is in effect.
2. Timmm-ber! is supported by the client (although it doesn't exist on the site yet).
3. The client is signed with a new, current, code signing certificate which should get rid of some scary security messages at launch time.

Some problems have arisen though:

1. Match results are not properly uploaded to the site.
The matches are not lost by any means; they are simply stuck in the FFB client and once this bug has been identified and solved, the games will be manually pushed through to the site.

2. Replays are not working.
This is also something we are looking at. Again, nothing is lost here and we simply (or possibly not so simply) have to identify the bug and solve it.

It's quite late for both me and Kalimar though, and these unexpected problems will have to wait until tomorrow.

I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you. The replay issue, while bad, isn't nearly as bad as the missing uploads. We're doing what we can to solve it.

Update
Both of these issues have now been fixed. Hopefully, it didn't impact you too much.

FFB Client update status

The new client (and server) is up and running. However, there's still some residual issues with communication between FUMBBL and the FFB Server. This means that games will not automatically connect, and you'll need to supply a game name to make it work.

It's getting very late on my end, and I will therefore leave it as it is, and hope that you'll bear with us as we try to figure out this little quirk tomorrow.

There are loads of changes that have happened on the site and in the client, so please let us know if you find something that's broken (apart from the automatic scheduling that isn't working currently).

Edit: I've started a status and feedback thread for this in order to be able to provide status information and get feedback from you guys in a more orderly fashion.

FFB Update

Tomorrow evening (Sunday 23rd) at 20:00 server time, Kalimar and I will be starting the work needed to make the new FFB client version live on the site.

As opposed to previous updates, we are going to attempt doing this update without any downtime, and without cutting people's games off.

Now, this will mean that old games will continue to run on the old server, while new games will be started on the new server. Reconnecting to a game will still get you to the appropriate server (meaning the server the game started on), and the old server will be running for at least a couple of days in order to have games finish properly.

Now, while we're hoping to be able to do this relatively seamlessly, there's always a possibility that it won't work as we expect and we may need to cut games off in order to do this migration. If you have some very important match, it might be advisable to not play it during tomorrow evening.
