Fringe: Noun
An outer edge; margin; periphery:
Something regarded as peripheral, marginal, secondary, or extreme in relation to something else.

This group is an offshoot of the White Isle League and aims to give coaches on the waiting list a chance to play some games whilst they wait for a space to open in the main league.

Joining the Fringe
  • We try to keep a good balance of teams so if you wish to join PM me with a list of the races you'd like to use in order of preference.

  • Teams must be new (zero games played) [L]eague teams.

  • Teams must only play scheduled games against other Fringe teams, friendlies or games outside the league are not allowed.

  • After a season or cup has finished a team can leave the group and be replaced by another new team as long as it follows the league category and race restrictions.

  • Most importantly, when a spot opens up in the main WIL your Fringe team can be transferred directly should the coach wish to do so. The coach also has the option of starting a new team (as long as it doesn’t breach the race and category restrictions).

Secondary Teams
Coaches already in the WIL can have a Dynamite team and will be allowed to play in the competitive leagues and cups, but they will mostly be used to make up the numbers. These teams are just there to make up the numbers and may be asked to step aside to make way for coaches wishing to join mid-season.
Secondary teams can join the main WIL.

Fringe Format
The Fringe season will feature a number of 4 team leagues which will depend on the number of applications.
These leagues will kick off up to 2 days after the deadline for round 2 of the main WIL, anyone joining after that will have to wait for the cup.

After the leagues have ended (the last should be completed at the same time as the deadline for round 4 of the main league) a knock out cup will be run. This will feature all the new coaches and the rest made up of secondary teams. Any teams beaten in round 1 of this cup will go into the Fringe Plate, late joiners might be eligible for the plate if there is space, or secondary teams able to make room.

White Isle Fringe rules
These are the rules for the White Isle Fringe. Please note, they follow the rules from the main WIL as closely as possible but there are some key differences.

Recruitment
The league is always looking to recruit new coaches throughout the season (roughly every two and a half months). It replaces our Reserve List, so teams can replace any coaches who drop out of the main WIL. For more information, please read the top post in our recruitment thread

Entry requirements

This is an English-speaking, UK time zone league, so coaches wanting to join should be either:
  • a) British Isles residents;
  • b) citizens of the British Isles living abroad but within two time zones of UK/Irish time;
  • c) any English-speaking coach within two time zones of UK/Irish time whose home country does not have its own national league.
(However, we have been known to bend these rules ... quite frequently.)

Approximate Annual Schedule

The Fringe follows the schedule of the main WIL, which is below
January-March - League Season A
April-June - League Season B
July-September - League Season C
September-November - League Season D
December-January - FA Cup

League Regulations

Dead-lines
Each round of matches will have a 9-day dead-line, but coaches are very much encouraged to complete matches faster than that as often as possible. So, the deadline for the next round will be set as soon as all the matches in the previous round have been played.

Team Categories
To ensure that a variety of types of roster are represented, the league uses the race categories adopted by the SWL (as listed below). In the competitive league as a whole, approximately one-third of the member teams would ideally be drawn from each of the three main categories (Rock, Scissors, Paper). (There is no minimum on Dynamite teams.)
In individual divisions, things are a little more complicated, as a team will join the main WIL as time progresses. However, as far as is possible, teams from each category will be spread as evenly as possible across the divisions in each tier when they are drawn.
As Primary teams can join the main WIL then their availability will be reflected in the make up of the main league.

The teams in each category is listed below:
Category Rock teams : Dwarf; Chaos Dwarf; Orc; Chaos; Undead; Nurgle, Chaos Pact.
Category Scissors teams: Lizardmen; Necromantic; Norse; Skaven; Khemri.
Category Paper teams: Dark Elf; High Elf; Wood Elf; Elf; Human; Amazon; Slaan.
Category Dynamite teams: Ogre; Vampire; Goblin; Halfling, Underworld.

(Note that teams are broken down into these categories on the basis of the potential damage they can inflict, not how much they can take. Any system chosen will always be somewhat imperfect and arbitrary - this is just our one!)

Individual Roster Cap
In order to avoid flooding the main league with teams of the same race the races available to new coaches will be based on the make up of the WIL and will depend on how big the Fringe is (see below).
There is also a cap on the total number of teams in the league that can be drawn from any single roster, which is 10% of the total teams (rounding to the nearest). With 58 teams at the moment, this means no more than six teams of any particular type.
Please note that this means that there may not be a completely even mix of teams in the league with all rosters represented. This is intentional. I consider it normal, fitting to the Blood Bowl fluff, and in fact desirable, for more popular teams like Orcs and Humans to be (relatively) over-represented compared to niche teams like Pro Elves and Khemri.

Birthday Potions and Kickstarter Gifts
For the purposes of maintaining a level playing field, please do not use birthday healing potions or any other scrolls or potions from the FUMBBL Kickstarter in the WIL Fringe.

Forfeits
An extension of up to 2 days can be given if both players are sure to get the game played in that time. (N.B. Sometimes this extension will not be available if this will delay the start of another tournament but this will be indicated in group PM's).
If they can't guarentee that the game will be played the game will be forfeited on the deadline.
The rules used for forfeiting are based on the official FUMBBL tournament rules and are as follows:
-If no coach contacts the staff the forfeit will be random in a league neither team will get the points. In a cup then it will be random unless one coach has obviously been absent.
-If only one coach contacted the staff that coach goes through to the next round.
-If both coaches contact the staff I will look at the circumstances. This might result in a random forfeit or a certain team forfeiting.

Scoring and the Divisional system
Scoring System
5 points are scored for a win (or win by forfeit)
2 points for a draw
1 point for a loss
0 points for a loss by forfeit or concession

(Note on forfeits: If both coaches are judged to be equally responsible for the match failing to be played, neither team will get any points from the match.)
So: play your games! Just turning up and hanging on for the final whistle will get you a point!

A record is kept of coaches who forfeit games and this will be taken into account in future games and deciding who gets into the main league. Coaches who consistently forfeit or concede matches will be kicked from the league. Concessions are allowed but very strongly discouraged. The leagues and cups will be short so teams can easily be retired afterwards and a new team started.

Team Retirements
A team can be retired after a season or cup finishes and replaced with a brand new TW 100 team.

TW Caps
TW caps must be adhered to at the start (only) of each season, so that a team may be entered into that tier of the league for that season.
Current season's TW caps: -Fringe Leagues and Cups 150 Tournament Weight
All skills are to be picked pre draw for a new season.
