“SWL Season XVI - Premier - Round 5

Some harsh casualties early in the match (both wardancers sent into early retirement) spelt doom for the wood elves. The first half saw We Fink Wer Orks in a secure position, ready to score by about turn 5. Noticing that they were unlikely to have time for a second touchdown, they chose the cautious approach, and stalled the half out, scoring in turn 8. The wood elves came close to an equaliser after injury time extended the first half, after some successful dodges, it was a failed pass that stopped them from scoring (ed: note that it was actually the weather that stopped them from scoring - without the sun in his eyes, Baj would have made that pass), and we were thankful not to have given them more time than we did.

The second half saw a half hearted offence from the swiftly diminishing elves, thwarted with seeming ease. Touchstone was about the only player putting up much of a fuss, managing single-handedly to take down the ball carrier, and pick up the ball himself, but without support from the rest of the team, he was eventually taken down, resulting in a second touchdown for the amazons.

The final drive saw Touchstone put himself on the line, hoping to receive a long-bomb in the end zone. Strangely though, We Fink Wer Orks did the opposite of their training, and left him there, instead going after the ball when it was fumbled... I guess the blood of a pair of wardancers was sufficient to whet their appetite for violence.

Some fine dodging in the dying seconds of the first half brought the echoes extremely close to an equaliser. If the weather had been nicer, Baj might not have had the sun in his eyes, and Yasha might even have had a shot at catching the ball.

Fine defensive work in the second half - although he didn't quite stop the touchdown, he certainly slowed things down a bit. He also set himself up for a touchdown, but again didn't have the support from his team (that could have been because half of them were busy nursing their injuries or mourning over the loss of Cation).

Points for trying ... his two completions had been the other two attempted passes he made, Baj would certainly have cleaned up on the twahnlow votes. He was the key player in both touchdown attempts, perhaps the echoes put a little too much pressure on him - he seems to throw the ball just fine when it doesn't matter.
