SWL Season XVI - Premier - Round 6

A fight for the possibility of keeping a place in Premier for another season; against a team that was fighting to take home the trophy, and what a fight it was!

Both teams came in well prepared, the orks with Zara and their dubiously erratic shaman, and the Adepts bringing in Hthark the Unstoppable. The weather unfortunately was rainy, making the ball very slippery, which proved to be the largest hurdle for the orks to deal with.

The first half saw the Zen Adepts kick the ball, and immediately move into our half - I'm of the opinion that they actually moved before the whistle, but have no way of proving it. Bringing in Hthark under the ball (fortunately it was too slippery to catch), and moving in some of the dwarves and hobgoblins as well, we were immediately in a poor position. Responding to their obvious cheating (you have to wait for the whistle), Elbow Kikka put the boot into Tetsugyu Concentration while Loony Tossa snuck the ball out right from under Hthark's nose. It was not to last, however, and it was not long before the Adepts moved in to collect the ball themselves. After a *very* close call on the sidelines, they were able to get a player free and scored in turn 5.

The Adepts kicked again, and once again made very suspicious movements before the whistle had even sounded! This time, we were a little more prepared, but it wasn't enough to break through the dwarvern defence. The half ended 0-1.

The second half came, and we made use of the same underhanded tactics employed against us in the first half, catching the dwarves off guard. Unfortunately, their Bull centaurs proved up to the challenge, with enough speed to deal with our attempts to get the ball. Things were looking bad again, when a fireball came in to even things up. Some further poor ball handling saw the ball on the ground; and, unable to pick it up before time ran out, it was game over for the orks.

------------------- Twahnlow Votes -------------------
3 pts - #9 Lung-t'an - Collected ball in first half, gutsy moves to get out from a tight spot by the sidelines. An absolutely key player in several parts of the match (pretty much anything where picking up the ball was required). Always an excellent player, we are glad that at least he died with the ball in his hands. Rest in peace Lung-t'an.

2 pts - #14 Disciple Shariputra - Showing an unusual amount of initiative for a troll, Shariputra Actually did something good, passing his 'really stupid' roll all by himself, and blitzing Heart Rippa (KO) allowing for the play that was to follow.

1 pt - #7 Abhaya - In the second half, this was the hobgoblin to watch. With both of our tacklers off the field, his job (carrying the ball) became much easier. Even so, he got himself in the right places at the right times, and was instrumental in holding off an ork touchdown.

#9 Lung-t'an – Dead (RIP)
#16 Tetsugyu Concentration – Serious Concussion (-AV)
The day was indeed rainy and slippery, but it didn't detract from the excitement of the game.

Both teams had plenty to play for and it showed with both teams giving it their all, and in some cases more. Blitz wa the order of the day, 3 blitzes on 3 kickoffs meant that every offensive drive was disrupted and borken field play was the order of the day.

Uknan scored the solo TD in the 1st half after some scrappy play, ad it proved to be the decider, with neither team being able to mount cohesive offensive drives and scrambilng defense from both sides was outstanding making the last desperate stop almost every time it was needed.

Twahnloes
3pts: Bone Krasha - And impressive match with crucia blitzes Cas and a multitude of blocks almost gettin his side across the line.

2pts: Loony Tossa - Loony, but skilled thrower who can make tough pickups and throws even in the grimy, sliper conditions.

1pt: Head Stompa - This frenzied player cause havk on the filed using his specialized skills to the optimal degree.

Late in the 2nd half Adpets Super Hobgoblin Lung'tan paid the ultimate price for his team, while running down the sidleline he was brutally hit by Bone Krasha and killed in the line of duty, ball in hand, the way an Adpet wants to be.
