“SWL Season XXI - Southside Stone Smashers Conference League - Round 6

While the norsemen were busy with the coin toss, the girls went out the back and dealt with the ref. Turns out they had plans to make this quite a bloody match.

In turn 1, Ingjaldr took down Throat Carva (smashed hand, apoth fails), and Jökull took down Face Maula. With two players off the pitch already, the girls were out for some revenge... and revenge they got. With the ref so turning a blind eye on the norse, Knee Snappa was able to do what she is best out, and dealt out more than her share of fouls, dealing out 3 cas and two KOs. And towards the end of the first half, both sides were starting to run out of players...

Barely realising that the clock was running down, the orcs were too busy blocking and fouling to rember about the ball. It wasn't until the final turn that any of them actually remembered that the point of the game is that you're supposed to get the spiky thing down to the other end of the pitch! Somehow, just somehow, the girls remembered just in time and made a truly remarkable play - the sort an elf team would be proud of, with several GFIs, a dodge into 2 TZs for the blitz, and a short pass to get the ball into Elf Bruisa's hands for the score. This was, by far, the play of the match -- and probably the play of the season for the girls.

Half time score: 1-0

Coming into the second half, the norse had plenty of reserves, so while we could only field 10, the norsemen were able to field their full 11 players (and still had a spare). And while they were mostly quite inexperienced players, they put up one hell of a fight. With a less biased ref on the field, we couldn't affort to foul quite so much either.

Honestly, I think that the girls tried to play it a little too safe. They didn't have the numerical advantage and eventually, they just ran out of time.

Final score: 1-0

The girls came into this match incredibly over-confident against what they thought was an inferior team. Bad idea - the norsemen were well coached, and played a solid match, and the girls were lucky to still manage a win.

Good hit in turn 1, and another later in the game. Despite his lack of tackle, he did a fine job to get 2 cas and a KO from just 7 blocks! It was definitely the damage dealing that kept the norsemen in the game, and this guy was the best at it.

For taking down Big Scora, and really opening up a good shot at the ball. With a little more support, that move could have been a game-winner (or at least have been enough to bring the scores level).

Not really trying to show off, this guy got himself well in the way right through the second half, and put some real pressure on the ball carrier. Came pretty close to turning the match into a draw i reckon.”
