This match was exactly what I thought (and hoped) it would be - a blood bath! I give kudos to the Whinos for winning their first game (and 2-0 to boot). Though I was missing 2 players for the match, I still had 12 to field. The whinos had 10 potential but 2 had niggling injuries (his best tree, chardonnay and his best halfling, kingfisher). Both players missed the game, leaving the Whinos with only 8 to start. I won the toss and elected to kick. The kick was deep and I was able to get around the sides quickly. His other tree, Shiraz, got the Buzzing handicap so he set about inflicting harm. Dodge came in handy and kept my girls on their feet quite a bit. The bulk of the game was the Gems running around the Whinos ends and pressuring the ball. The Whinos made some nice plays, even getting the ball across the LOS once and threatening to score, but the manpower shortage was too great. We did learn that a Big Guy with Buzzing can still TTM. Also, we noticed on at least 2 occassions when Take Root kicked in for the treeman, the Frenzy aspect of Buzzing still allowed him to follow up on blocks and blitzes. Not sure if that's because of the way the client treats the two abilities, or if the LRB 4 rulebook addresses it that way.
Thank, lemf, for a fun game. I know your flings didn't stand much chance, but you gave it a heck of a shot and I respect that. Hope to play you again soon, our matches are usually very close. This one is the exception.
