#11 Kalir Lancetooth – Damaged Back (NI)
#18 Howard Darklightning – Gouged Eye (MNG)
Give the guy credit, he 1+1'd a dodge on 2 consecutive turns. The niggle was well-deserved.

The Band started their 3rd Prem season vs. what looked to be a pesky Elf team, even though the Elves were down to one War Dancer, Zeppelin wasn't too thrilled about the prospect of leaping stripballing elves with enough fast blodgers to potentially run circles around the half dead (and some of them are all dead at this point).

The game started with the elves receiving, and trying to find an opening in the undead defense. The first couple turns saw the elves just elfing around, dodging where ever they wanted, taking blocks on the hapless linezombies and switching the ball back and forth side to side trying to get the slower undead out of position. Even the blitzing of John Paul Bones went for naught, and the only damage Zeppelin was able to accomplish was a foul which saw the fouler also get sent off.

But, as with most elfy things, when the players start to get complacent, it turns to rubbish in no time. This is exactly what happened around turn 3 when the undead shifted their defense to the top of the pitch, and the elves failed a dodge. And not just any player failing any dodge, but their star Kalir Lancetooth, tripping out of a dodge and breaking his back on the way to the turf.

After that, the band picked up a few KOs and Stairway to Heaven scooped and scored a couple turns later. The elves did have a last chance to tie the game before half when John Paul Bones fell down on a long blitz attempt, but the earlier elf fail seemed to have affected the rest of the team as a relatively simple pass (for elves that is) went off target.

The 2nd half then required the elves to land a successful wizard and get the ball back to tie the game up. It didn't happen. The wizard did fireball a zombie off the pitch, but Stairway to Heaven dodged the flames and was able to sing the extended version of the song at the goal line while the rest of the team went about trying to maim the rest of the elves on the pitch.

Certainly not the best game the elves have ever played, but welcome to Premier, nothing is going to come easy here, as Dead Zeppelin knows too well from their frustrating 2nd season.
