Wheel of Chaos - Round 6:

A tight game that went down to the wire - and it was down to our very last chance, where we got the dice we needed to steal the victory.

In the first half, the chaos got a perfect defense - and some poor blocking meant that quickly we had lost several players (mostly KOs) and were forced to move for a quicker than desired score. To compound that - all our key players remained out after the score - and the chaos ballcarrier whom we had KOed woke up. That set up the last part of the first half as a very critical one. We started off with quad skull/pow on our first block - and things were looking bleak. Really what saved up was a deep kick, so our wasted turn did not completely screw us. We then used our wizard - to LB the ballcarrier and race in for the ball. Here is where both sides can be ticked off at what happened. We grabbed the ball, and gfi'ed forward and would have marked the only tackler in range with our last player - but alas - we snaked the gfi. A solid chance to go up 2-0 vanished and it looked bleak...then the chaos recover the ball and snake their gfi! So we get the ball back and race to the endzone - going to be in great position and we snake the gfi! Argh! However, even though we can curse our unsteady feet - it did burn time...and a failed 3+ pickup with RR by the chaos on turn 8 meant no score for them. So overall, it could have been better or worse.

As it was, we were very short of players and got steamrolled in the second half. Apoth failing on our rat ogre as we were just slammed. However, we had gutter runners and with decent KO wake-ups would have a chance to one-turn it on Turn 16. However, we went 0 for 5 on KO rolls...so only had 4 players and no chance to one turn it.

On to overtime, here we got 3 of our 5 players back - but more importantly won the coin toss. We received of course and had a great first turn with blocking...the chaos could not take down our gutter runner with a 2 gfi blitz. So we needed 2242 to score. Failed the first 2+ roll to use up the RR - then had to consider...242 - we figured that is around a 35% chance. Take that or try to wait a turn. Outnumbered, we did not see a lot of good options, go the gfi, made the 4+ pass, and tense moments as the ball flew through the air...2+ catch worked...and it was over.

Yet again, we got dominated by our opponent, but managed to sneak out a win with our gutter runners at the end. Thanks for a great game...now we have to decide what to do to get ready for the final!
