It was the first game of the NWFL's 6th season and the newcomer Necropolis Priest Kings faced last season's champion Green Back Smackers. Finishing 3rd and 2nd (respectively) in the preseason, this matchup looked to be a preview of a possible playoff game. However, these teams had already met once in the preseason, with the Priest Kings winning due to the surprising number of casualties the caused. Despite starting without Ildereth-Hor, the Priest Kings' best tomb guardian, the game was expected to be close, and with lots of blood shed.

The game opened with the Priest Kings kicking to the Smackers. For the early minutes of the game, the khemri team bashed away at the orcish line, forcing the ball carrier to run from side to side searching for an opening. Half way through the first half the Smackers' Kord managed to toss the ball to the open Crimsonwolf II. The Priest Kings tried to cover the orcish receiver, but he managed to dodge away and run in for the score before being overwhelmed. Then ensuing kickoff lead to much insanity in the remnants of the half, as the Priest Kings successfully opened a sideline corridor to run through, but was stymied by poor ball handling and the collapse of the opposite side's front line defenders. The Smackers got close to the ball, but never got ahold of it. In any case, poor blocking abounded for both teams, and the Priest Kings could not get free to even attempt a last ditch pass to score.

The second half started with the Priest Kings pounding on the Smackers' defensive lines. Despite additional ball handling problems, the Priest Kings managed to punch a hole through the orcish line and drive in for a quick (for khemri) TD, leaving half of the second half to try to get the win. Once again things went crazy after the kickoff. Despite the Smackers starting down a player (the fans evened that up by knocking out the tomb guardian Amu-Sul) they started well, opening up a sideline lane, when ball handling issues struck again. Taking advantage, the Priest Kings swelled into the backfield, hoping to secure the ball. However, the Smackers recovered with aplomb, escaping through a hole the center of the khemri line, leaving many of their foes out of position in the backfield. Despite being out of position, the Priest Kings managed to get star player Setekh over to assist in covering the ball carrier. With time running out, Kord tripped as he was trying to evade Setekh, leaving the ball free and no Smackers in range to score. Again trying for a last second score, the Priest Kings' Askor could not escape The Murker II, leaving the game tied at one apiece.

An excellent and crazy game with both teams having (and blowing) opportunities to score. The primary difference in this game compared to the preseason match up was the significant drop in punishing power of the Khemri this game. While they still put up an impressive amount of casualties and KO's, many of them came late and the KO's this game were no where as numerous. Even so I'm sure both teams will be working on their ball handling before their next game.
