This one always looked a battle. With both teams big up front but not light on ball-handling at the back it made for an interesting encounter and an even match.
The first half started promisingly enough. Removing the The Crimson King from the field early on allowed the Pact to control the line easier with their greater strength. Coach Earl is a fan of an aggressive offence. "We tried to get in their faces and cause them problems up front. If they didn't keep growing new bits then maybe we could have won but it's hard to beat such teams on attrition.
In the second half 'Rot's' superior ball-handlers made the Pact's life hard. They slowed the drive down and nearly stopped it when Jacob the goblin managed to take down the incredible Jack Mort. Decadence were too tied up though to take advantage and Jack recovered the ball.
The final twist of the game was saved for the closing seconds when Zacchaeus, frustrated by The Crimson King throughout the second half, stamped on his head with a massive studded size 25. It's hard to know where to stamp a beast as all the bits look the same, but the head he found and the beast didn't recover. Zacchaeus was sent from the field, but the game was already over. "Beautiful" was the only comment from the coach on the incident after the game.
All in all, not a bad start for Decadence in their bid to remain in the top division. Judas fractured his skull and now has to wear a protective helmet - which only causes all his team-mates to smack him on the head exacerbating the situation. The doc said he'll be susceptible to concussions for the rest of his career, but the coach isn't ready to cut him yet.”
