Season XVII: Week One

This match played out textbook dwarven tactics. We won the coin toss, elected to receive, and began slowly attempting to eliminate elven threats from the pitch. Weaklington sports some rather frightening catchers who can perform double duty, and made getting to the endzone very difficult. We were not able to score the first half due to one of said catchers taking Justin off of his feet when he made a break for it at the end of turn seven. Some solid defense.

Second half we did our best to slow the match down and prevent giving the elves any easy openings to pass the ball clear. While applying pressure to one of the elven throwers the tide of the match was changed when Rick Wagner managed an interception while under double coverage. The Black Anvils were able to capitalize on this turn of events and run the ball in for a touchdown. The thrower was later heard on the sidelines shouting "The sun was in my eyes" to anyone who would listen.

With two turns left to play the elves set up, jumped off the LOS, and dashed into scoring range, as the ball came lofting in to the awaiting hands of their remaining catcher. With the fate of the match at hand the Anvils decided a few sneaky plays were in order. First up came the realization that all of Weaklington's cleats had be greased, making the pitch as slippery as ice. Secondly, a lightning bolt streaked out of no where and struck the catcher that was holding the ball, setting the ball loose. The remaining dwarves came in and surrounded the ball, daring not to pick it up and risk fumbling the ball into the hands of the elves. The elves managed to get a player free from the dwarven circle of death, but just as they were about to attempt to retrieve the loose ball a poor block ending their drive, and with that, secured the victory for Baltimore.

A thank you to coach Garcangel, who took our attempts to cripple his team in stride, and put up a good challenge.
