FUMBBL Cup XV - Round 4

We started this fourth round highly motivated although aware, that we had to rely on decent dices, if we wanted to keep chances alive.
The decent dices came. We received the kick off, knocked out two players at the very beginning and were able to hurt one of their +ST players in turn 4.
Still the lack of Tackle and Guard made it hard for us to path our way and we got stuck twice. At first we tried the classical cage along the sidelines (which was not absolutely classical as to put a player of ours next to the sidelines was risky, considering their potential to leap at 2+ and attempt a surf). Dark Elves are great at positioning and at defense and so it became that their ability to Side Step and blitz whoever they want to (given a ST4 Lineman and the ST5 Leap Blitzer) wrecked this tactic.
Repositioned in the middle but didn't find a way.
In turn 6 we took a gamble and chose to form a cage on the other side line with the help of a Go For It and a Dodge.
That proved to be not enough and their ST5 Blitzer took what it is necesary and knocked our ball carrier down.
Their AG5 Blitzer got the ball and ran away, being almost out of reach for our players and even more so for a touchdown.
I gave our wizard the command to spell a lightning bolt and so he did - even hurting their Blitzer.
We picked up the ball, threw a pass and headed on to our potential scorer for a hand off when we got timed out! Ouch, that must have been the most critical time out ever in our history of Blood Bowl.

The second half began and we expected the worst.
PeteW coached very conservatively and this helped us a lot as we, supported by occasional albeit not critical turnovers for our opponent, hold the ground. He even had to retreat his ball carrier.

PeteW did not exploit a bug when he timed us out during a 2db and chose NOT a more favourable block result of the automatically rerolled 2db.

Although we were 10 vs 9 and later 8 players, they brought themselves with not much effort into the position to score in turn 7.
Our last chance was to blitz with a Dodge on 4+ and hit their carrier, which worked gladly. Getting hold of the ball and being able to score, we misclicked and didn't hand off with the better positioned Chaos Warrior. Searching for an alternative, we got timed out again close before the victory!

Overtime, kicking off. At this moment we were thinking about the reprocessing of all this inadequacies, which might have resulted in a whiny match report.
What we didn't expect were two failures at picking up the ball (without rerolls) and a fail to Dodge at 2+ twice (with Dodge).
Finally we took control of the game, eliminated the threats and scored in turn 3 of Overtime.

Clearly we had the better dices, while Ultimate Mr. Men didn't really try spectacular moves. It will be up to the fanbase to decide whether this win was deserved or not.
