Among those in Crimson shirts, expectations were high this early Spring Day in Wolfenburg. Carroburg is 2-0-0 in their first two matches, and with a 6-1 TD score and 12-4 Casualty score, the crowd has the right to their high expectations. The Wolfskins has done well so far, too, With a 1-1-0 score. With approximately equal number of fans, the stadium packs an impressive 26.000 fans.

Cascade kicks, and Wolfenburg puts up a strong left flank attack. The kick is good, but Cousins picks it up easily and passes to Jenkins, who runs like crazy behind a wides creen of Wolfskin players. Cascade concentrates on Matt Johnson, newly traded in from the Legion, and Althoff finishes him off (Badly Hurt) with Inga as support. First Casualty is in the books, and Cascade allows Jenkins to score without making a serious attempt to stop him. 1-0 to Wolfskins, who willl have to kick and is one player down.

Inga uses her kick-off Return and even though she don't manage to catch the ball directly, she picks it up quickly and passes to Nicola, who goes to the right side behind a solid screen. There is a lot of scrimmage action and Ballard KO's Sean Taylor, but is himself KO'd by Don Shula. Fouling is not successful from either side until Art Monk KO's Manfred. Cascade's screen is starting to leak now, and Inga shouts that "Enough is enough, let's get serious". Althoff gets his second casualty of the day as he kills rookie lineman Santana Da Moss, and Nicola runs the TD in with a little help (RR a 1 on GFI). 1-1, but the Wolfskins have time to score before the half is over.

This time, the Wolfskins run the same play, only on the right flank. Cascade again lets Jenkins go, but pressures enough to ensure he will score, and not try to stall. 2-1 Wolfskins.

There is time enough for a TJ show, though, so Anders and TJ takes the field. The pass from Anders is good and Wolfskins are not set up to prevent the ensuing TJ run for the TD. 2-2. The final turns wind down without much happening in a fierce blizzard where the players can barely see each other, but which disappears again during the break.

In the second half Cascade puts Anders and Nicola on the field, and plays a grinding offense designed to score at the end of the half. They go left, but the Wolfskins put up a spirited defense, even though Theismann is KO'd by a foul from "Crazy" Crawford, and Art Monk is summarily banned when trying to return the favour against Althoff. Wolfskins try to put pressure on Nicola, but in doing so puts Green and Jenkins in a dangerous position. Green realizes his mistake when Billy Winn blitzes, and throws himself flat just before he is pushed into the stands. Jenkins too, hangs on to the sideline with gritty determination while being pressured by Billy Winn and "Crazy" Crawford. He dodges away from the sideline, and Green stays down, but this means Wolfskins are seriously undermanned in the central part of the Field. Thus, Cascade can push its way past them and Nicola advances almost to the goalline before she stalls, protected by Latimer and Crawford. Wolfskins has to be content with doing as much damage as they can, which unfortunately for them an the crowd isn't much. They get one more chance to hit Nicola when an overeager Billy fails his GFI while frenzying Bobby Massie, but Oliver Vernon's blitz isn't good enough, and Nicola only sidesteps and is rescued by her blitzers. A couple of stuns and the KO of Thorwald Hessel are the only things that happens in the second part of the half as Wolfskins cannot penetrate the Cascade defensive screen around Nicola, and she can safely run in her second and the Cascade third TD of the day.

Wolfskins set up for a one-turn attempt by Jenkins, but Cascade smells a trap and reform their defensive line just before the kick (Perfect Defense), taking Wolfskins by surprise and foiling their one-turner attempt.

It felt like Cascade had full control, except for the failure by Winn in the second half that allowed Wolfwkins a chance to blitz Nicola. On the other hand, it did never become the casualty feast of the first two matches. For that Wolfskins were too careful and too strong. Wolfskins overall played well, except for forgetting the frenzy threat in the early second half, but never seemed to get a casualty. In fact, they are the only team not to have caused casualties in the first three rounds of the season.

We are satisfied with three TDs and two casualties (both on Hoffman, who is leading the League in Casualties), and Nicola skilled up and became more agile... (ST3/AG4 now!). We are now firmly in the lead of the dicision with at least three Points to Wolfskins and Vikings (Vikings haven't played their 3rd round yet). Next match is when we welcome the Vikings to the Crimson Pool!
