This wasn't exactly a game of two halves, more like 75/25. I don't know what was going on, but my dice packed up and went home early, allowing LEAFAR to score a late score to secure the draw.

Which was only fair, really, as I had a fairly faultless first half and hadn't been expecting to do anything like I did anyway, what with fielding six journeymen and no thrower.

I received and scored quickly, feeling that it would be good to get one in the bank, and was then gifted with a blitz on the kick-off. I couldn't make it all the way to the ball, but I was able to do enough to disrupt LEAFAR's offence and be in a good position to prevent him from getting the ball to safety. A bit more luck saw the wardancer receive the hand-off in a TZ and then run in his second score.

LEAFAR then failed a go for it on his attempt to score on his final turn, leaving me with a most surprising 2-0 lead at the half.

And the second half looked like being more of the same, with the dark elves struggling to do any damage to the woodies, despite plenty of good blocking. But this time they were able to hold on to the ball and run in the score at the end of their turn 5.

Which was fine. I felt I could reasonably win from here, either by scoring another to make sure of the win, or at least to prevent the dark elves from getting anywhere near the ball and my endzone.

But that was when I stopped rolling anything useful. I had a couple of players downfield, and a fairly good defensive position behind the tree, so I went for a quick little pass to push the catcher up to 31 SPPs and he fumbled it twice.

LEAFAR wasn't able to get to the ball, however, so I was free to try again next turn...and I got the same result, allowing the dark elves to get that second score.

A 1-turn TD was out of the question - partly because I didn't have the manpower, and partly because the dark elf defence was rock solid, so I thought I'd just get that quick pass in, and maybe a multi-block with the tree, just because. A Perfect Defence took care of the multi-block, and then the useless catcher failed yet another quick pass - and then failed to get the MVP - so he's still on 30 SPP which, if today's show is anything to go on, is way more than he deserves.

And after that, I'm not surprised I lost some fans.

Still, looking on the bright side, no one was injured, I could afford a new wardancer, I get my thrower back, I had some fun playing a good opponent and at the end of the day, I was probably lucky to come away with a draw and not a loss anyway.

It's all good, really.
