#11 Emery Kesmon – Fractured Skull (-AV)
Litbowl Finals

Nurgle received, high kick was caught by a rotter. They didn't want to risk the hand-off to lewdgrip, but that left the rotter as a constant strip ball threat. We managed to keep lewdgrip occupied by a lineman for most of the first half.

We eventually leaped in for a -2 BD (vs skill-less rotter), got a knock down, then leaped in with other dancer for a 4+ pickup, dodged out. Survived a 2 BD non-tackle hit, then managed to score to go up 1-0.

Towards the end of the first half, the Nurgle had a chance to surf our strip ball dancer but rolled block/skulls. Then, they managed to get tentacles on him by the sidelines. But he managed to dodge out of the tentacles with a RR, but failed the next dodge. He was fouled but was not hurt. That was very fortunate and critical to have him for the second half.

In the second half, we received with a full 11 on 11. We struggled to make progress forward, as the Nurgle were doing a really good job of keeping us bogged in.

They managed to get the Beast marked up against our ball carrier, but we were able to chain push him off and push through and cage up. It looked like we had sealed the win.

But then they 5+ cage dived and powed our wardancer. The wardancer was stunned with the ball in one of our TZs. Lewdgrid picked it up in the TZ, dodged out, and passed to a rotter -- inaccurate pass that bounced back onto the intended target, who caught it (!). Fortunately, the rotter failed the hand-off to the next rotter who was in scoring range.

At this point, we had 3 guys locked to the beast. We managed to peel back other players to mark the ball, then our wardancer was able to dodge out and escape tentacles with a RR, he picks up the ball on a 3+.

We were feeling good at this point, with the Nurgle having no more RR and needing the pow and some hard dice to score.

But then we blitz with a linemen, escape tentacles get the 2 dice and seal it up a bit better. The nurgle tried a 6+ dodge in to my cage hero play on T16 but couldn't get it.

Final 1-0 win.

I was definitely very fortunate that I didn't roll very many 1's on my dodges. The dodge skill on 7 players was super helpful vs. his no tackle, but even still, I only really failed dodges when it didn't matter.

We both ended up having our defensive hero play which definitely kept the game interesting. It was a great game, very well coached and a lot of fun! Best of luck in the future.

It was a quite tense game, and I feel the rotter catching the ball put the driver under extra pressure. Do I do a 3+ handoff to Lewdgrip, who was constantly targeted - downed or marked, as he had to provide safety for the unintended ball carrier - or do I keep the ball at the rotter? A failed handoff could cost the game there.

Good progress down the pitch, despite virtually no takeouts - and feeling acceptable safe in my semi double venga cage. And as you say, had the ball NOT being recovered by you there, it had looked great for the Nurgle fellas. Alas the 30% or so, success on getting the ball and getting free succeeded. From there on it was all about the 2nd half.

Tried to put a slow pressure on the ball, slowly tightening the grip, while securing the other side.
Succeded okay in that, however Woodies (especially when well coached) are extremely tough to keep bogged down, especially when there were no real removals. So was forced to hope for a snake somewhere, constantly forcing 3-4 dodges/GFI´s a turn. But didn't´t really work out.

I believe that if I had made, maybe 1-2 more removals, or you had gotten a single snake somewhere, it could have all been a different game. I did however get my opportunity to shine - but failed.
Still unsure IF I should have stood next to the G, and keeping a rotter on the other side. However it would just have been a few successful dodges from the beast, 1d and the ball would be on elven hands.

Anyway, the game was tense and could have switched momentum on many turns, which is what you want in a game. I think there were maybe a total of 3-4 turns, where there wasn't´t any real pressure on the ball from either side. Today NUFFLE just choose to favor the woodies, when it mattered the most.

A great and well played game, and hard to really say anything to the result. 1-0, 0-0, 1-1 and 0-1 were all possible and fair results from a coaching perspective, I feel.

Best of luck to you as well mate.
