“I knew coming in I'd have to get lucky to win this game, but I was riding a hot streak of late, so who knows? Apparently the fans know...a game opening invasion badly hurts one of my storm vermin, setting me on the wrong foot to start. Nevertheless, I would have scored, if not for an absolute boneheaded decision on my part, moving my rat ogre and tempting fate by dodging. Yes, he has str 6 and break tackle, but a 1 is a 1, leaving my thrower in the backfield staring down a str 4 blitzer...

Next drive, I'm down to only 9 rats standing, with two not waking up from ko and two important rats injured. I set up to score, have the opportunity, all I have to do is pass for the score...interception in a tz, despite safe throw. *rolls eyes* Half ends down 2-0, and my two ko still won't wake up. Game looks all but over...

Second half begins with a blitz, and I manage to catch the ball surrounded by rats between me and the elves. Things are looking up, right? Well, he manages to blitz into me anyway, jar the ball loose, and send it the other way. Several block dice are not enough to take him down (I'm really kicking myself for not taking tackle on my rat ogre when given the chance before gen access was removed!), and he dodges in for a 3-0 lead.

At this point the game seems all but over, so he only sets up 3 elves on the line for team preservation. Of course I score easily, now down 3-1 with 4 turns to go. Next kick, blitz! Again I catch, and a failed gfi on his part allows me to close the score to 3-2, two turns to go. Could a miracle be in the offering? Alas, it wasn't to be, as he's able to blitz a hole in my line of potential interceptors, throw between, and set up a box of elves around his ball boy. I have only one shot to get him...a blitz using my rat ogre, hoping his str 6 break tackle will let him get near the ballboy. Of course, at this point is when my RO fails his WA roll for the first time all game long, so he goes in to score 4-2. One turn left, I can try for a pushback-promotion score...nope, manage to roll POW for the one time I don't want it, ruining my chance.

Early cas won the game for him, I just hope I made the game interesting towards the end. Nobody lost perm, three new skills, no loss of fans...not a bad experience over all. Pity my rat ogre had to niggle on his skill roll. :'-( He's too valuable to give up, though. Especially with the new rules for BG's...”
