Blood Bowl ranks alongside being cold, getting blind drunk and evisceration by daemons as one of the premier pastimes of the Kislevite people, and the town of Volksgrad in the east of Kislev plays host to one of the more renowned Kislevite teams - the Volksgrad Vultures. The Vultures are a team with a long and proud history of brutality on the local Blood Bowl circuit although they have fallen on hard times of late. Once known for their audacious (and occasionally successful) ''Rush an' Pass'' style of play, the Vultures' recent history has been somewhat less glamourous. Repeated Chaos incursions has seen crowd numbers dwindle, and the Vultures have been struggling with rising debts.

After several pay cheques to players bounced in the closing weeks of last season, the Vultures have since been under the administration of a rag-tag Board of 'Executive Managers' appointed by the series of cattle tycoons, banking guilds and loan sharks to whom the Club owes a substantial amount of money. Unable to come to any agreement as to how to slice up the Club, these groups have (after a long and bitter series of expensive legal battles) come to the unlikely decision that the only way to get their money back is to transform the Volksgrad Vultures into a successful team once more.

To this end, the Vultures have been flung into the HUBBA league in a vain last ditch effort to gain fame, fortune and long-elusive solvency for the Club. Will the Board set aside their bickering and turn the Vultures around? Will the players get paid this month? Will the fans accept the proposed 1500% mark-up on the price of a season ticket? Buckle up, sports fans - it's going to be a bumpy ride.
