Slender, slightly less tall than Lestat, his maker, black of hair, gaunt and white of skin, with amazingly long and delicate fingers, and feet that don't make a sound. Louis, whose green eyes are soulful, the very mirror of patient misery, soft-voiced, very human, weak, having lived only two hundred years, unable to read minds or levitate, or to spellbind others except inadvertently, which can be hilarious, an immortal with whom mortals fall in love. Louis, an indescriminate killer.

Louis was made in 1791 when he was 25, by Lestat. He lived in New Orleans with Lestat for 4 years until Lestat made the child vampire Claudia. They lived together in New Orleans for some 65 years.When Claudia rebelled against Lestat and 'killed' him, they left New Orleans for Europe and stayed there until her death. Louis spent the next hundred years wandering the world with Armand and finally left him after he learned from Lestat that Armand was resposible for Claudia's death. Louis is always described as a great beauty. Lestat also called him Mercifiul Death; he is the most human of vampires, and who, in his early years, didn't kill humans out fo his "respect for life". He has long black hair and green eyes with a slight french accent.

Pandora is born with the name Lydia a few years before the birth of Christ in the Roman Republic, the daughter of a wealthy Roman Senator. Like many senators' daughters at the time, Lydia is taught to read and write. She comes to love poetry, especially works by Ovid.

Eventually Pandora discovers that Marius is a vampire and also that he is the protector of Those Who Must Be Kept. The vampire Akabar uses Marius's love for the mortal Pandora and drains her to the point of death, forcing Marius to make her into a vampire to save her.

Pandora is a morose, despairing immortal who initially wanted immortality but soon regretted her choice and turns into a dark, indifferent cynic.

Magnus, the maker of Lestat, gave himself immortality during the 1400s when he trapped a vampire and stole blood from it. He chose to make Lestat a vampire because of his courage.

On the same night he made Lestat a vampire, during the year 1780, he destroyed himself in a fire, leaving Lestat alone to discover and learn about his immortality.

This was a boy, as I had said, and he had a head of long curly hair. But his face was shining white, and perfect, the countenance of a god it seemed, a Cupid out of Caravaggio, seductive yet ethereal, with auburn hair and dark brown eyes.

Armand in many ways has never matured from the teenager he was when he was turned. He is still prone to impulsive and extreme acts, often described as seeming "lost" when his actions spiral into events beyond his control.

Dora is a television celebrity who preaches about nourishing the soul through religion. She was raised by her father (Roger) after he killed Dora's mother (Terry) and hoped one day to make a spectacular impact on the world through religion. Her spectacular impact comes through Lestat. Lestat comes across Dora while he is stalking her father and he later becomes her protector after he kills Roger.

When Lestat returns from his journey with Memnoch, he shows Veronica's veil to Dora. She takes it from him and shows it to the world, declaring it an authentic miracle, and people come from all corners to see the veil for themselves. She breaks all ties with her former life and becomes the guardian of the veil.

One of the twins from ancient Kemet who inadvertently began the cycle of vampirism in the world by summoning the demon spirit Amel, who possesses a dying Akasha and turns her into a blood-drinker.

Claudia was the diseased human girl Louis feasted upon but could not bring himself to kill. In an effort to keep Louis from leaving him, Lestat turned the ten year old girl into a vampire. Later she attempts to kill Lestat, and finally meets her fate at the Theatre of the Vampires in Paris.

At the age of 40, when he was sitting in a tavern recording his travels he was encountered by a man from the north -- a druid.

After small conversation and a short while later, he was abducted by druids and taken away to caves in Gaul and keep prisoner. He was prepaired to be given to the 'god of the sacred Grove' an ancient vampire who resided in the sacred oak. He was extremely burned, black as charrcol, hurt and weak. It was there that Marius was made into a Vampire. Afterward, he was told by his maker to go to Egypt and find Those Who Must Be Kept -- the anicent Vampires, Akasha and Enkil.

Khayman was the chief steward in the palace of King Enkil and Queen Akasha of Kemet (now Egypt) circa 5000 BCE. Of Egyptian descent. He was tall and strong as a mortal, with very tan skin, dark eyes, and black hair (after being transformed into a vampire, his skin whitened and smoothed considerably).

When Akasha and Enkil become vampires, they made Khayman bring Maharet and Mekare back into Egypt to find out how their insatiable bloodlust can be mitigated. Maharet replies that the evil spirit now inhabiting the Queen is too large to be contained in her human body; only when more vampires are made (and the spirit thus diluted more and more) will the bloodlust become tolerable. Akasha then betrays Khayman's loyalty and forcibly turns him into a vampire against his will, to verify the witches' claims.

After Akasha is finally destroyed, Khayman becomes the oldest vampire in existence.
