History

An early variant of the ‘beloved game’ (see 1st edition designer notes) focused on a form which involved a significant number of rules. It was a game which lasted far longer than what we have today, mainly because of all the stopping and starting, the constant resetting of the players after each 'down' and the complicated terminology.

There was an attempt to resurrect this game by the NAF (see 2nd edition), but the crowds, coaches and players clearly rejected it. It was too slow and not as much fun as the modern game.

Some teams still tried to play by these rules. One such team was called the Bright Crusaders. They tried not to foul, rough up their opponents or stomp on their pitch side graves, but aimed instead to play a technical game.

They prized the perfect touchdown over the removal of the the other team's players from the field. They sought the most remarkable pass rather than cheating and bribing the referee to get the other team’s top star sent off for a mild infraction.

Unsurprisingly, they became the most unsuccessful human team of all time.

And now they are back!

And determined to outshine their opponents with technique, style and outstanding flair.

They prefer to call their brand of the game, AFL or All Football League. The game is less interested in violence and focuses more on the winning through fair play, sportsmanship and excellence.

Roster

The positions have unusual names compared to the modern teams. The meaning of these names are lost in the mists of time. Who knows what a Quarterback actually was?

Restricted Skill Access

Because they focus on the more agile aspects of the game, they only have access to general skills on a double. In order to represent this significant disadvantage, the players on the roster cost 10K less each.

Extra Training

Rather than going to the local tavern after a match, these players go to the training pitch. In fact, they are so obsessed by training, the cost of their rerolls is 40K.
