Famous Teams
Icecastle Wolves, first mentioned in 2nd edition Comp 1988

Background
Wintertooth teams have played Blood Bowl pretty much since the formation of the NAF. The most notable team of that era was the Icecastle Wolves who first got their chance after a mysterious lightning strike killed the entire Wuppertal Wotans in an AFC play-off game in 2483. Some suspect the Icecastle Wolves were responsible for this “accident”, as the NAF only allowed so much representation from each region in the leagues at that time and the Wotans were occupying the Norsca position. Icecastle Wolves were also one of the first teams of the region to gain sponsorship from Wolf Runner Coaches, allowing this nomadic team to travel from one game to another in style. Unfortunately for the sponsor the Icecastle Wolves never achieved any success of note, in fact as the years rolled by – they were probably best remembered for a game in 2501 in which Nobbla Blackwart decapitated 14 of their Chaos Goblin linemen in one game. A record that still stands to this day.

While Wintertooth teams are technically a Norse variant they gained their alternate name as they came from the far north of Norsca, a region enveloped in perpetual frost. The team was also fronted by two Ice Trolls capable of belching ice breathe that could freeze any opposition in its place and 2 Skin Wolves with razor sharp teeth and claws that gained a reputation for grabbing hold of the ball and refusing to let go until the game finishes and they transport back into their human form. Spike Magazine coined the term Wintertooth to describe these monsters of the north and the name stuck.

Rationale
Loosely based on the Monsters of the North from warhammer fantasy battle, a Chaos Norsca army let by Throgg. Featuring Ice Trolls (all Ice Trolls are Chaos mutants), Chaos Trolls, Chaos Ogres, Chaos Minotaurs, Skin Wolves and other Beasts of the North. I decided not to include Chaos Spawn and Forsaken as they have their own team, I also opted not to include Chaos Giants and Dragon Ogres because they are so huge and powerful they would draw too much attention away from the rest of the team. I decided to give the team a limited number of Norsca Linemen, but unlike the standard Norse team these have M access like the rest of the team. I also decided to make the linemen Chaos Goblins, as Chaos Goblins are a team from Blood Bowl lore that have not yet featured in Secret League and having Chaos Goblins here fills that gap. Plus in a Big Guy team, especially one with Trolls you need Stunty Linemen, so this is a perfect fit.

I decided to give Ice Trolls 0-2 as they are so specific to that region and not yet featured in Blood Bowl. I gave them Fire Breathe instead of Vomit to represent their Ice Breathe and I gave them Thick Skull as they are generally depicted as being slightly tougher than Trolls.

The other Big Guys I made 0-1 and gave them M access on singles to strengthen the Chaos Themes. I also gave the team the Special Rule Chaos Undivided as that is the most fitting thematically.

Finally I decided to include Skin Wolves in this team, these are not your Necromantic Werewolves, or Ulferweners, they are savage chaos Werewolves that burst through their human host skin and stand much taller and more imposing than a human. They are frenzied killers like all the Werewolves, so Frenzy was added. There lore is very specific about how they are hard to control and attack their allies, so Animal savagery was a perfect fit. Because of their size St4 felt appropriate, however I wanted them to be faster than the Ulfwerner as they are more like the Necromantic Werewolf in that their lower half also transforms into wolf form. I also added My Ball to them. This is a nice little nod to 2nd edition Blood Bowl Werewolf special rules, and the thought of the Skin Wolf grabbing the ball between their teeth and refusing to let go is both amusing and very fitting for this team and the games themes.
