Tutorial: Create your deck

If you don't feel confident with the software, here is a small tutorial to use the deck builder.

First, let's see how to generate a sealed set of cards.

  1. Run MWS
  2. Ctrl + G or tools>>generate a sealed deck
  3. In the new window, pick the starters and boosters you want from the list at the top
  4. Press the "Generate" button
  5. Press the "As Deck" button in the "Work with it" part of the window
  6. A pop-up will appear asking if all the cards should be moved to the "sideboard", press "yes"
  7. Once it's loaded you can save it (as a deck)

You generaged a sealed set of cards. Now let's see how to build a playable deck from those cards.

Once you got your cards

First download this file (megaupload, if someone knows something better ...), it's an "inventory" of basic lands. Then run MWS, switch to the deck edit mode (in view menu), and load the file you just downloaded (Ctrl + L or Files >> Open Librairies). And last, load the set of cards you got (Ctrl + O or Files >> Open Deck).

On the left part of the screen you should see the cards you can add to your set, if you did things like asked you should see only the 5 basic lands there. And on the right, the cards you got to build your deck.

  • To add a land, select the one you need and press the blue arrow to add it straight to your deck or the green one to add it to the sideboard.
  • To move a card from the sideboard to your deck, select one and press the grey up arrow.
  • To move a card from your deck to the sideboard, select one and press the grey down arrow.
  • WARNING: The red arrow doesn't move a card from your deck to the inventory, it simply delete a record ... And there is no possible undo. You'll have to reload your cards to have it back. So you don't need the red arrow at all.

There is some statistic features, once you added some cards to your playable deck try tools >> base analysis (F7). Nothing to add, you are all set ...

Now that you have a deck, you can test it in solo mode (Ctrl + T or Game >> Test deck in solo mode). Best thing you can do is to toy around with the interface to get used to it, there is nothing really complicated.

This way to build a deck is ok, but check MtG Nate's Deck Builder?, harder to get things running but way better once you are done with the setting part.
