The Road to the FUMBBL Cup

Part 3 - Concession Stand

by Sam Walkerson

I'm making my way by carriage through the northern Drakwald, and the wind is chill. We stop at a coaching inn for the night. The Stag's Head Inn is full to capacity tonight, and the rich and poor rub elbows in the common room. A storm passes over, further darkening the evening sky and all night we hear the whip of sheets of rain through the pine boughs and the crack of thunder overhead.

Having neatly secured a table near one of the two fireplaces at either end of the main room, I pick through what the barmaid assured me was a venison stew and cast an eye over the other patrons. Astonished by my luck, just one table over is the powerful Blood Bowl personality known only as P.M.G.

TNT: Your Wood Elf team, Power of Grayskull won the last of three qualifiers sponsored by Spike! Magazine and seeded by their Top 100 teams ranking. Congratulations. Was it difficult? Was the competition anything special?

PMG: A fully built wood elf team is quite hard to beat. I managed to go through with clean victories but hard losses in my roster.

TNT: And how did the actual Cup competition compare?

PMG: After reaching the main draw, all matches were quite hard, and with heavy losses and very tough calls brought me to face the best Blood Bowl coach with less players than expected.

TNT: You're referring to your semi-final loss to the Blood Falcons, a match you conceded when it was 3-2. Can you tell us about the match, and what drove you to make this decision?

PMG: A close game at start quickly turned to his favour as my players were leaving the field, and as I knew I would retire the team after that game, I decided to forfeit the match and spare my men.

TNT: Finally, are you going to try to qualify for this year's Cup? With what team? How do you like your chances?

PMG: I always try to prepare a team for the next main event, and the FUMBBL Cup will be no exception. Hope I'll have my Dark Elves (the Street Fighter Legends - ed) ready in time, since my Orcs got slaughtered in a game after winning the GLT Qualifier. I'm sure I will find a way to qualify, I've managed it so far, and I hope I'll be able to put up a good fight for the win in the main tournament.

TNT: Thanks very much for your time. Good luck in the future.
