Vynheim Valkyries, who were first mentioned in 2nd edition
Famously Valkyries had already made their make on Blood Bowl when the Amazonian tribes starting playing the sport. Originally Amazons came from a Norsca province. They left their home looking for adventure and set up camp in the jungles of Lustria, adopting the culture of the Lizardmen and over time adapting to their jungle environment. Years later Amazons started playing Blood Bowl and over time their teams achieved world fame.
As word reached Norsca of the Amazon's lineage - Valkyries from all over the frozen peninsula were invigorated. The warrior women of Norsca started playing the sport, adopting the style of play first used in the region. They preferred to stay true to the art of sport, electing not to employee wild animals from the frozen tundra. Instead they played the passing game, while the fearless Valkyrie Beserkers dealt with the brutal side of the sport. The only assistance they would allow was the stoic Ogresses of the region.
Valkyrie teams are quickly gaining popularity for their fearless berserker nature and from admirers of the passing game alike.
Valkyries are mentioned in Blood Bowl on a few occasions. They were first mentioned in a team name in 2nd edition. The team was called Vynheim Valkyries. Though the team was not really all women as the name Vynheim Valkyries would suggest. All the players that were named in the 2nd edition hand book were male, however Valkyries are female.
The next occasion Valkyries were mentioned was in Blood Bowl Magazine 1. Which was when Amazon teams were first added to the game, and Norse teams were brought back after a long absence. In the background material JJ wrote for Amazons he explained that the Amazons were once a group of Valkyries that left their Norse settlement looking for adventure. They ended up settling in the jungles of Lustria and took on the clothes and customs of the Lizardmen. They were discovered years after their disappearance in their current Amazon form.
When designing the Valkyries I felt they had to match both the Norse and Amazons blanket 6337 stat line any thing else would be out of place really. I felt they should be have the Amazon positionals, rather than the Norse ones as the Valkyries ended up playing Blood Bowl with Linewomen, Thrower, Catcher, Blitzer positionals. Ulfwerners specifically did not feel fitting in an all female team. Once I looked at what I had it was essentially the LRB4 Norse roster. So in the end I decided using the LRB4 Norse roster was a perfect fit. It is a roster that I always enjoyed using, and while I did like most of the changes made to the Norse roster between lrb4 and lrb5, I did miss the old Lrb4 roster and felt it different enough and fun enough to warrant a place in this custom roster league. It also fit all the thematics of a team somewhere between the current Norse and the current Amazon roster.
The only difference I made between the LRB4 Norse roster and this one is the Big Guys. In LRB4 Norse teams could have Minotaur, Ogre, or Trolls. Only 1 could play at a time but they had the choice of those 3. I have given them the Ogre only for simplicities sake, to avoid people getting confused and taking multiple big guys. Also I have used a female icon and player art for the Ogre as I felt it could be an explanation for where Bertha Bigfist played before becoming a star player. It would make sense for female Ogres to play for Valkyries, representing their gender etc...
