Sounds like a bug.
Was it blitz, perfect defense or did he put the diving catch guy on LOS from beginning? |

Oh right sorry I missunderstood. If he is on his own side then it is a bug. I thought this was the same as the other thread. |

Yeah, it was perfect defence. Humans kicked, moved catcher on los next to ball and caught ball from other side and was let to keep it.
this game, turn 7 of 2nd half. |

Between the kick off and diving catch entries, I'm not completely convinced that the rules disallow this. That would probably be arguing a serious technicality though. |

If the catcher is still on his side, then it is illegal. Rules are clear here. They say - if the ball goes off the pitch or on to the opposing teams half it is out of bounds and the receiving team can give the ball to any player they like. |

I think it's legal - cheeky, but legal. Diving catch lets you catch the ball if it lands in the catching player's tackle zone. This can still be in the receiving player's half, i.e. a kick that lands on the half-way line, which would not cause a touchback. |

It says lands in the opposition half or bounces into the opposition half. Strictly speaking the ball lands on the correct half and just is caught in the opposition half... thus not a touch back... as a technicality
If he failed thw catch then the ball would bounce from his square and likely Touchback. |
