My dream of an all-vampire final seems pretty far off...

Joplin Disasters 3 - Alethkar Shard Warriors 2

Joplin dipped into petty cash for a wizard. Alethkar had problems with Joplin's line of big guys, only taking down one. Joplin fired off their wizard immediately, springing the ball, but a big guy had problems of his own, rolling Skull/Both Down and failing loner. Alethkar reclaimed the ball and moved it forward while removing several Disasters from the field. Joplin managed to land a 2d blitz on the ball-carrier at the sidelines, but the ball bounced into the arms of another Shard Warrior, and two Disasters were surfed for their troubles. Joplin managed to knock the ball clear once more with their Strip Ball elf, but could not claim it. Alethkar scored on turn 8. A hoarded reroll allowed Joplin to even the score with a successful Throw Team-Mate, but they were still down bodies.

Joplin moved up carefully, but could not break through the Alethkar lines. An attempted reverse was cut off by wolves, and Alethkar grabbed the ball with one. The Disaster elf again was able to spring the ball, and a Skulled block from a Shard Warrior let them reclaim it. Constant pressure from Alethkar forced them to score with two turns left. Cheering Fans gave each team a reroll back, and that let Alethkar reroll a failed GFI to score, sending the game to OT.

Alethkar had the man advantage, 11-8, but Joplin won the coin flip to receive. A failed pickup sent the Alethkar wolves in deep. The Disasters got the ball to a marauder who ran through to the other side of the Shard Warriors formation. A failed GFI by a ghoul left him able to get almost free. One wight made GFIs to mark him, but a successful dodge put the game to rest.

In addition to the win, Joplin got a couple very nice skill rolls, with their goblin landing +MA, and their dark elf, Carl Kelley, getting +AG. With him already having Leap and Strip Ball, Joplin has gotten even more dangerous. Congratulations on the NWC Championship, Sutherlands!

Thank you, sir! It's been tough matches all the way up, and I thought for sure I was going to lose that game with the waste of the wizard and the way the rest of the rolls were going in the first half.

The AWC Championship game is done!

Surrey Serpents 2 - White Rock Midnight 1

The teams set up in Pouring Rain. Surrey starting notching their belts early, with a BH on a rookie lino turn 1, and a BH on a +ST lino turn 2 that drew the apo. White Rock attacked the skinks, using Strip Ball to get the ball free on turn two, but 1s tripped them up. Surrey inflicted another BH, and a KO the next turn, but the Midnight kept them from holding on to the ball for any length of time. A KO on the White Rock Strip Baller finally ended that dance, and the Serpents stalled near the end zone. The half ended with the Serpents up 1-0, their only damage an ejected skink.

Perfect Defence continued Surrey's luck. They swarmed the Midnight that were moving into scoring range, perming an already-injured blitzer. With many of the Serpents drawn deep into White Rock territory, and more on one side of the field, White Rock landed a passing play and scored the turn after. On the next kickoff, the crowd inflicted more damage than the Midnight had so far, BHing a skink with a Rock. A failed pickup gave White Rock more hope, but they were out of rerolls by this time. They got one more good crack at the ball, with a witch elf blitzing, but they could not find pows, and another failed Midnight dodge the next turn let Surrey take the lead with one turn left. White Rock did not have a OTT play available with seven players.

After faltering down the homestretch, Surrey has regained the form that let them win the Preseason and be dominant in the first half of the season. More, they have charged up for the finals, with three skill rolls giving them Frenzy on a saurus, Block on their kroxigor, and Tackle on +ST skink Paris Jackson. The finals game is looking to be a brutal one - yay!

The Superior Bowl this year was a clash of two teams at the top of their game. The Surrey Serpents had been dominant early before faltering during the second half of the season, but regained their form for the playoffs. The Joplin Disasters had always been strong, but were overshadowed by their division rivals, the Snarkville Smurfs. A playoff win over the Smurfs put that bogeyman to rest, and they were all set for the finals. Joplin dipped into their warchest to finance a wizard for the game, but this allowed Surrey a chainsaw.

The chainsaw backfired right away, with an attempted hit on a big guy taking Helmut Wulf down for a stun. Joplin hit back, but their attempt at the ball failed with a couple 1s. Surrey grabbed the ball and used their speed to slide around one side. The wizard was called for, going 2-for-3 for a BH but missing the ball-carrier. A block away from the ball used up Joplin's last reroll, and they could not free the ball. The Serpents were also out of rerolls, though, and Tackle on the ball caused the skink to trip when trying to score. Joplin failed the AG4 pickup, but the Serpents handed the turn back with another chainsaw fail. The Disasters surrounded the ball, but their turn also ended early, with their minotaur BHing himself on a botched hit, drawing the apo. With no high-percentage actions, the Serpents went for the one they had, and got paid when a skink managed 3+ dodge against Tackle, 4+ pickup, 3+ dodge against Tackle, 3+ dodge, 3+ dodge to score.

A Blitz on the kickoff let the Serpents adapt to the Joplin formation. With three turns and no rerolls, Joplin tried moving in, but a handoff was missed. Surrey could not get the ball, but a hit took Joplin's Super Star dark elf out of the game as the half expired.

Joplin was down a player and a score. The Disasters took their initial hits, but a 5-assist foul on the Surrey krox failed to break armour, and one of those assists had been the ball-carrier. The krox got the 1d Pow to take him down and ran their skinks in to fight for the ball. Joplin's ogre failed a block early in the next turn and failed Loner as well, and the Serpents collected the ball and CAS'd the Disaster goblin. Surrey stalled for a turn before taking a 2-0 lead. The big guys continued to embarrass themselves on the next drive, with a Bonehead followed by a block failure. The Serpents ran in again, but a successful passing sequence got Joplin the ball to their skaven and him downfield. He was marked by a Diving Tackle skink, but successfully blitzed the skink out of the way and ran in for 2-1. That was Joplin's turn 7, though, and a Weather Change kickoff result meant they would not have another chance to score. Surrey still had two turns, though, and ran some skinks in deep. Joplin took the ball-carrier down and snagged an SPP with a pass, but one of the skinks managed a 1d Pow as well as dodges and a pickup to make the final score 3-1.

Thanks for the write ups RobRoy always fun to read.

The first half was brutal for sure, both teams didn't seem prepared. Helmut Wulf was more a hindrance than help... We later found out he had been into the booze left in the locker room before the game.

The Serpents spent the whole night listening to Queen and drinking reptiles to celebrate. For those that are interested... 1 part whiskey 1 part mountain dew and 1 1/2 parts orange juice.
